Open to Join A Sky Still Gray

That day was bright and warm. The trees were starting to color a bit, and birds were chirping happily, their songs breaking through any stillness.

It wasn’t right.

Why? Why was everything so bright when she would have preferred it to be dark and gloomy? Why couldn’t the sky weep for her? A part of her felt so dim, so… missing.

Curling up beneath an old tree, Skyblossom looked down at the ground, green gaze cold. Ears drooping, or what she had left of them, anyways, she rested her head on her paws, curling her tail around her until it brushed against her nose.

She hadn’t even known them well. Skyblossom didn’t understand how one could barely know somecat but still miss their presence so much. The camp felt empty without Spidertongue’s quiet presence, or all of the others’ voices or scents.

Why? Why?

Purring, Skyblossom couldn’t help looking down on herself.

Strong warriors didn’t curl up underneath trees and feel bad for themselves. Real warriors didn’t wish they could change their name just because of a measly battle.

Sighing, she started mumbling. “Let’s see… maybe Ashenblossom? Fogpetal? Mistflower? Featherstem?” Skyblossom muttered, trying to distract herself. Then, she paused. She had a good idea. “Rustlewing.”

She liked it. Combining her mother’s suffix -rustle and the suffix -wing to make a warrior name? It was nice. And sounded quite pretty…
