Emberdawn's mind was still pondering the gathering, even if it had been close to a week since the loss of a medicine cat was more than WindClan would imagine, and the change in ranks of the cats in and out of WindClan and RiverClan, namely Muddypaw training under Rowanglade, and Frosteyes taking temporary healer-ship of ShadowClan had the new deputy all... confused for the most part. His first full moon as deputy and this is when StarClan decides it is the best time to place this upon then clans.

But truly, it wasn't about him, not really, this was medicine cat business. Uninvolving of him, so he didn't have a say in what the superior cat had over him. That wouldn't be... the greatest impression of a first time deputy. But remarking the borders that a patrols might have missed would have. Especially with the borders marked around the barn being so full of cats. However, the peace or troublesome atmosphere brought forward by his own thoughts was soon shattered by an odd scenet coming from the fence bordering the barn from WindClan.

He flickf his cinnamon colored ear and moved forward. His eyes caught a pale tom milling around the border, glancing off into the territory with the intent to search in his eyes. A peculiar action to be doing for someone not of the clans. But he didn't seem much of a threat a first. One could never truly know unless one were to see for himself.

"Something you need?" Emberdawn spoke as he advanced calmly toward the loner, tall as he could be with his height that wasn't sure was doing him favors in the interaction. He had no intentions of intimidation, just intent on finding out what the cat was here for. And why they were lingering so close.

Monty wasn't paying much attention to much as he continued on his way, merely scenting the air every once and awhile in search of his friend's familiar scent. For a moment he thought he caught it, but it was merely her scent caught on a low hanging bush. Part of her border ritual, no doubt...

He hadn't gone long through his casual investigation when a bright white, well, mostly white cat intervened. Despite the tom's initial friendly disposition, it startled the older feline, jumping half a paw step out of his fur, each strand on end as he swung around to confront whoever might have come across him. No, definietly not Basilflame.

"O-Oh!" Stammering with a squeak that felt more natural coming from a mouse, Monty addressed the WindClanner. "I'm terribly sorry if I'm intruding...I'm looking for something, you see, noble Wind-Cat..." There was no way he would endanger the she-cat from his inquiries, but he didn't want to decieve Emberdawn either.

"Perhaps you've seen...a fiery herb about?"

'Perhaps you've seen... a fiery herb about?' The words caused Emberdawn some thinking. But not a lot, it didn't take longer than a few flicks of his tail to realise who the cat was. He gave an understanding nod and his mismatch gaze bore into the outsider's set of amber eyes. "Basilflame has been... grieving." Emberdawn could have added 'All of WindClan is.' but to tell a rogue about the cause of their grief without prompt, to tell the rogue that WindClan has a cause for weakeness so plainly to a rogue that could very well hurt him the same as Gemini. He didn't know this cat, but he was certainly more cordial than the mad rogue had ever been.

"A deputy has been lost... and gained." he added with a flick of his tail, he didn't need to give any more information on why the cats of his clan were, that was enough. Whether this rogue knew of what a deputy even was wasn't his worry to have. But a thought tugged at him, why was he looking for Basilflame? "She also has an apprentice to teach." Emberdawn added honestly with a nod of his head, acknowledging the loner but not letting his guard slip, he was only sharing what would be safest to share.

With the simplest of explanations said, he stared the non-clanner down, his fur flat but muscles twitching beneath, preparing for an attack. It was clear that he was still on edge after the rogue attacks and the death of the rogue. Regadless, his posture was refined enough to seem polite and proper, that was enough.

Monty's ears dipped at the mention of grief, the easy warmth in his expression dimming. Shifting his weight he tried not to make a move that could be mistaken for a threat. Monty had no interest in testing a tried and true warrior.

"I only mean to thank her...She helped me some time back." A faint, sheepish smile tugged at his muzzle as he lifted one paw briefly to flex his toes. "I'd gone and made a mess of my paw by landin' on it funny and I could barely put weight on it." He gave a small chuckle, whiskers twitching with awkward mirth.

His amber gaze met the other tom's. "...Figured I might catch her along the border and settle that debt." The arch of his shoulders shrugged, unbothered on the surface even if he felt his heart flutter. "No trouble meant...Just an old barn cat tryin' to mind his manners. I'm sorry to hear about your Clan's troubles..."

Emberdawn twitched his ears at the rogue's explanation. It was like Basilflame to open a paw to a stranger, he didn't blame her for helping another cat in need. Especially when this cat was so... non-controntational? Emberdawn studied Monty for a moment longer before heeding to the lack of threat with his own muscles easing from their formerly tensed posture as he allowed himself to slip a bit of his guard, he trusted this outsider wouldn't hurt him, but he was still prepared to fight back if his plan was to cause harm.

"That sounds like Basilflame. Her heart is bigger than she admits. However, she's also busying herself with other things." Emberdawn added, his cinnamon fur almost glowing like embers in the sunlight as it bore onto the two of them, not heavily, but enough. He nodded at the older cat, it genuinely seemed like Monty owed his life to Basilflame, and with how important legs are to a life like this, he didn't blame him for such. "Would you like me the pass the message?"

His words grew in confidence and became less closed off, less demanding than before. While he wasn't exactly completely comfortable, it was a start of something. "If she's out... I could send her your way if you'd rather tell it yourself. But I will be her escort." Emberdawn replied, not wanting to put one of his warriors in danger, as friendly as this tom was, he was still an outsider of the clan. One he hadn't met before and he still wasn't used to being the cat that othered looked up to, not yet, the changed happened overnight after Aspenberry's death... so it was definitely something to get used to. He needed to protect his cats.

Monty's expression softened...That sounded exactly like her. But when the deputy offered an escort Monty was quick to dismiss it, a gentle head shake that he meant without offence. "Oh no need to trouble her over an old fool with a sore paw." He let out a low, breathy chuckle/ "She's right where she needs to be."

His tail gave a loose curl behind him as he took a respectful step back from the border. The tension that had lingered at the start of the meeting had all but dissolved now much to Monty's relief.

"If you'd be willing just tell her Monty from the barn says thank you." With a smile, the fawn sepia tom dipped his head. "For hearin' me out...you have my gratitude as well."

Monty turned then, paws carrying him back toward the treeline and the distant barn beyond. He didn't look back again with the hope that his message would be passed along and that he might catch Basilflame when it was a better time for her.

When Monty shook his head, Emberdawn accepted the decline with a nod of his head. It would have been no trouble, but he was in no mood to argue with a cat that simply didn't seem like he needed one. And this rogue seemed good enough for a nod to be fine enough acknowledgement. "I'll see to it, she knows." Emberdawn replied with a flick of his cinnamon tail. Watching as Monty left without need for escorting. At least this cat didn't like to impeach on their grounds, that was a nice change.

For a moment, Emberdawn pondered hunting for a bit before returning to camp, it was enticing, but the hunting patrols would have already done that. The prey pile would surely be full by the time he returned to camp anyway. The need wasn't there and the urge soon vanished as quick as it came. As if it were never there in the first place, he would be able to hunt again, just not now.

"Farewell, Monty." Emberdawn gave a final mew in response, whether the pale barn cat had heard him was another story, but it wasn't in his best interest to stand about and find out if Monty would return the farewell or if he would just move on. But Emberdawn's choice was to move back towards camp. The grasses brushed against his paws as he leapt through the territory, his return would be prompt and proper, like a deputy's should be.
