Nine days. Nine days until Heatherpaw was likely going to become a full warrior. It made Bayflower feel almost sick to the stomach. Not because he wasn’t happy for her. But because he had always felt like an average mentor. Despite his great compatibility with the molly, he often felt that she deserved better. That perhaps she deserved the best of the best. And that somebody was not him.
But that didn’t matter. What mattered was that the two of them finished her training properly. And to do that, he wanted to wrap up her combat training today.

Heatherpaw diligently followed after her mentor as they trudged lightly towards the treeline. Over the moons she had shed the gangly young proportions of a younger cat and was starting to fill out into her adult size and coat. Her journey as an apprentice seemed a typical one, but she had nothing to compare it to, and was pleased that both were heading out for some training now that the rogue was gone. Finally!
"Its so nice to be out an about again!" She chirped over at her mentor, chin tilted over with a pleased tilt of her plumed tail.

Bayflower was silent for a few heartbeats, proudly taking in Heatherpaw’s grown form. She had changed so much since she was born. Shaking his head to reel himself back in, the tom nodded in agreement, purring. “Yeah, it is.” the warrior responded, trying his hardest not to miss Aspenberry.
The past few days had been incredibly difficult for the voidable feline as he struggled to grasp his best friend’s death, wondering how her kits and others that were close to her were faring as well. But he had to focus on Heatherpaw. “I think, today, we’ll brush up on moves, eh?”

Heatherpaw stared back at her mentor, eying the she-cat with some mirth as it almost sounded like she was speaking with sentiment. Her whiskers twitched fondly as she half circled around a low bush, approaching an area that had less coverage and a flat surface in which they might do some sparing.
"I'd like that! What should we work on...?" Smiling softly at her mentor, her body lowered into a crouch that settled her weight evenly on all four paws. That was the way to do it if a cat didn't want to become unbalanced. She pondered further, ears alert for any suggestions. "Blocks...Maybe counter strikes?"
Heatherpaw preferred combat defensively when possible, but if Bayflower wanted to train more offensive moves that'd be fine with her too.
