Kosmo padded along the edge of the frosted treeline, his mismatched gaze flickering with satisfaction as he held a pair of plump mice dangling from his jaws. The hunt had gone well; the barn's shelter always seemed to harbor a steady supply of prey even in the cruelest depths of leafbare. The sun's golden glow cast a warmth that was almost enough to stave off the cold. Almost.

As he emerged from the shadow of the trees something caught his attention more than the serene view. A familiar silhouette moved steadily across the snow, her spotted fur standing out against the frost-kissed ground. Kosmo slowed as her scent wafted into his nostrils. Aspenberry.

He watched her for a moment, noting the puffs of breath that rose in soft clouds from her muzzle and the way her paws seemed to move with no particular direction, as if the path itself mattered more than the destination. Adjusting the grip on his catch, he closed the distance, his half tail rising in greeting.

“Out here all alone, Aspenberry?” His voice carried a light teasing warmth, muffled slightly by the mice in his jaws. He set them down delicately on a patch of color drained grass, his ears flicking. “You look deep in thought. Maybe you're planning your next grand escape from WindClan?”

Kosmo listened, silent for once, his head slightly tilted as her words painted a vivid picture of longing, restlessness, and the ache of searching for something undefined. Her pale green eyes, so thoughtful and full of questions, met his, and for a moment, he was tempted to steal her away from WindClan.

His mismatched eyes flicked toward the horizon she was gazing at, the endless stretch of white and gold. "Belonging, probably... Should I belong there, or...there? Should being the right word, for cats should always belong somewhere, and there is inheritance to consider, but there are a lot of factors in 'belonging' - and eventually, I hope to give cats that sense in the future."

He shifted his paws, his gaze returning to her, studying her expression. "You’re tied to WindClan, though, aren’t you? Not just the territory but the cats. It’s not a bad thing to be bound to others. It means you matter to them, and they matter to you. Maybe what you’re looking for isn’t ‘out there’ because it’s already here... or because it’s not a place at all."

He padded up towards her, close enough to touch, but Kosmo merely indicated to the mice that he caught so easily in the barn. "But if running is what you need to clear your head, you know your paws will carry you back. They always seem to... So why not have a meal with me?"

Kosmo’s lips curled into an easy grin at her response, a flicker of warmth in his mismatched eyes. “I do try...” He mewed lightly, if a bit smug as he settling himself onto the frosted grass near the mice. “Though I can’t promise I always get it right."

With a flick of his half tail, he nudged one of the mice closer to her, his movements unhurried. “But if I’m honest, it’s nice to hear you say that.That kind of belonging… it’s rare.” His tone softened at the end, as if the words carried more weight than he let on.

He watched as Aspenberry delicately plucked fur from the mouse, her focus steady, her earlier restlessness replaced by something quieter. For a moment, he simply observed, letting the stillness settle between them like the golden frost dusting the earth.

Kosmo leaned down to take a bite of his own catch, tearing into the mouse with practiced ease. First peeling back the fluff and making a hole to snatch the choosiest bits. He chewed thoughtfully before glancing back at her, an almost playful glint in his eyes. “So...If I’m giving you a free meal, does that mean I’ve earned the right to ask something in return? What about me keeps you coming back? Fate may have plans for us, but I'd be more interested in knowing your plans."

His gaze lingered, curiosity gleaming in his mismatched eyes.

Kosmo chuckled, a low, warm sound as he took another bite of his mouse, chewing leisurely before raising his gaze to meet Aspenberry’s. "Oh, I see how it is." He played along, flicking his ears in mock indignation before he winked at her from across his mouse.

Her next words, though, made him pause, his ears twitching as he caught the subtle weight in her tone. He studied her closely, mismatched eyes narrowing slightly in curiosity. "A choice that ties you to WindClan forever, huh? I wonder if its contagious." His tail flicked thoughtfully behind him. "I admit I'll miss you sneaking by for free food and philosophical debates..."

Her question turned the conversation toward him, and for a moment, he considered her thoughtfully, his tail curling lazily around his paws. "I’ve decided it’s time I made a home for myself - a proper one."

He stretched out his forelegs and settled deeper into the grass, mismatched eyes gleaming as he continued. "I think it’s time I stop living in the past. I’ve got some plans - ones that look toward the future, not the mistakes left behind. If you find a wayward loner or someone in need of help, send them south of RiverClan. While I may now lead an Empire, I can afford some charity - just don't expect free meals from me every time."

Kosmo chuckled softly at Aspenberry’s playful retort, his tail curling in amusement. Her mischievous smile gave him pause, and he tilted his head, studying her thoughtfully. "A... guess, you say?" He leaned back slightly, feigning deep contemplation. "Forgive a fanciful cat...Either you’ve been chosen to single-pawedly defend the moors from rogue invasions, or you’re settling down with some poor tom who has no idea how much trouble he’s in."

Kosmo let out a low hum, his smirk returning at the thought of some fiesty RiverClan cats. "Oh, I’m counting on it. Feisty ones make life interesting, don’t you think? A deputy or two isn’t enough to scare me off." He paused, leaning forward slightly, his voice dropping to a purr as his mismatched eyes gauged her body language.

Kosmo’s chuckle deepened into a soft laugh as Aspenberry’s words turned sharper, her tone cutting through his playful demeanor like a cold breeze. He tilted his head, his mismatched eyes gleaming with interest. "Then the birds will have a feast and my bones will return to the soil..."

When a ginger tom's name was mentioned, his smirk shifting into a sly grin. "Ah, so there is trouble. But I’ll give him this... if he’s able to keep pace with you, he must be someone worth his tail."

As Aspenberry buried the remains of her meal and spoke of leaving, Kosmo’s gaze lingered on her, the golden light of the descending sun casting her in an almost ethereal glow. The air felt heavier, tinged with the weight of her impending departure."I’m glad I could help... lighten the burden, even if only for a moment...You'll need it before any kits are involved." The stare was long in his mismatched eyes as she drew nearer to wish him farewell. "Take care of yourself, Aspenberry..." He murmured as she stepped back, her pawprints fading into the snow as she disappeared from view.

For a moment, Kosmo remained where he was, watching the spot where she’d vanished. He had a feeling it would be a while before he'd see the spotted warrior again. It was as if... something unspoken festered between them, like the itch of a flea which made his tail twitch. Another moment and he turned from the scene with a soft huff, eyes narrowing in the growing twilight. There were things to do...

Kosmo had barely turned away when the faint sound of pawsteps muffled by the snow reached his ears. He paused mid stride, his mismatched eyes narrowing with curiosity as Aspenberry’s voice cut through the growing twilight. Slowly he turned, a mixture of emotions in his gaze.

Her words tumbled out, hesitating yet deliberate, and Kosmo’s gaze locked onto hers, his smirk faltering as he realized the weight of what she was saying.

"Aspenberry..." He murmured, her name hanging in the cold air between them. He studied her, the determination in her pale gaze, the way her breath clouded the air as if each word cost her something to say. She looked as though the very idea of asking had scratched at her resolve, but she stood firm nonetheless.

A long silence stretched between them, broken only by the faint whistle of the wind. Then, Kosmo exhaled a low, thoughtful hum, his expression softening into something that bordered on admiration. "You’re full of surprises, aren’t you?"

He took a step closer, the snow crunching under his paws. "Our kits..." A part of him smoldered with a certain emotion - pride, maybe - but there were other parts that simmered with something more purposeful.

His tail swayed behind him, a slow, measured motion. "If that’s truly what you want, Aspenberry then I won’t stand in your way." He stepped closer, lowering his head slightly to meet her gaze. She was a bold cat, but that's what he liked about her. His smirk returned, faint but genuine, as he brushed his tail lightly along her

He let out a soft chuckle, though his eyes were serious. "I wonder what kind of story we're living here...but let's make it worth it."
