Rowanglade led the silent way to the surface, relived when her paws touched the chilled stone outside of Mothermouth.
She turned, ignoring the wet remnants of the earlier thunderstorm and watched as the rest followed.

Pipertufts ears were laid back tight to her head and her tail was low and slightly bristled behind her. She joined her mentor, but remained silent.

Nettleplume emerged from the mouth of the cave just behind Pipertuft, his pale pelt stark against the dark stone. The chill in the air bit at his whiskers, yet it was not the cold that sharpened his attention...it was the apprentice in front of him.
Her tail dragged low, bristling faintly as though she carried some of the storm inside her still. Unease clung to her like burrs caught in fur.
He said nothing. His blue gaze lingered for a heartbeat longer than courtesy allowed, then shifted forward again. StarClan’s voices echoed in his ears, loud enough without the need for words. Instead he let silence speak, paws placing themselves carefully on the wet stone as he kept close at Pipertuft’s flank as they all waited for the rest to emerge.
