The rain continued to shower on the poor forest cats, with only the tree branches above to guard their warrior pelts. Fortunately, it wasn't long before the cats finally trotted beneath the four Great Oaks, which finally assuaged some of the steep rainfall.

With a light grin tugging at the edges of his cheeks, Moosestar could already scent that Thunderclan was the first to arrive. The rain did well at washing most scent trails away, but it didn't hide the lack of movement of the various plants. This generally made the arrival or previous passing of such a mass of cats rather obvious to a clan that lived and thrived in a forest's undergrowth.

Leading down the bank of the gathering's sloping sides, each of ThunderClan could spot an odd sight which lie before them. Slightly increasing his speed of descent until he reached the flat bottom, Moosestar looked to investigate with nose, ear, and whisker, confusion in his eyes.

Here we set the scene
. · ˚ ✧ · ˚ · ✧ ˚ · .

The sacred circle of the four trees stood as a silent sentinel in the heart of the forest, a place where the chosen few of each clan gathered under the full moon to share news under the gaze of starclan. On this night, however, the atmosphere was charged with an unusual tension,, the air thick with the promise of a coming storm. Dark clouds loomed overhead, obscuring the moon's gentle glow and casting a deep shadow over the clearing.

The rains had come, a deluge that would blanket the land in sodden relief. In the coming darkness figures emerged from the shadows, their fur wet from the downpour. With them were four kits, about six weeks of age, four kits that no longer had a mother to care for them.
Alone it was an impossible feat, even with two cats, or three... a stable home was what these cats needed, and with it seeds to plant within the heart of the clans. If not for the heavy rains, the group of them may have smelled of the strange wilds unknown to the clan cats.
The acrid stink of the thunderpath, blood, fear, confusion, and even the perfume of herbs were lost in the storm. The storm would have erased any trace of paw prints in the loamy earth.
It would be soon now that the clan cats would gather - and when they would arrive into the clearing they would see the four that were left purposefully for them to find in their sacred clearing. Not from Starclan, but from a being that warned of strange tidings.

Windclan arrives!

Attendees: Badgerstar, Fawnbriar, Rowanglade, Shadesleek, Boulderdash and Brightpaw

Fawnbriar flanked Badgerstar as Windclan approached Fourtrees, tail up but ears flat to keep the rain from them. How Starclan expected anything to be heard over the rain, she had no idea, but it couldn't be said that Windclan wouldn't attend due to rain. As Badgerstar paused, taking a moment under the shelter of a tree, she shook her fur again and perks her ears curiously to see who had arrived. There was Thunderclan down there already and...... were those kits?! Did Thunderclan actually brings kits to a Gathering?! Glancing at her leader, she gave an inward sigh when he nodded and the began to lead them all down into the clearing, the chocolate tortoiseshell right behind him.

Boulderdash took the moment to shake her own fur when they paused and then sniffed the air. "Looks like only Thunderclan beat us this moon." She mewed in her usual to her sister, though her tone was neither satisfied or disappointed before the dreamy tone did shift to that of curious surprise. "Oh, look! Someone decided this was the weather to bring kits to a Gathering!" She waited to see how her sister would reply before following Shadesleek down into the clearing with the rest of Windclan.

Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night
✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧

Palestar led her sodden group through the tunnel underneath the thunderpath, their journey especially swift as she picked up the pace to a determined trot. Not even a hurricane would stop the she-cat from bringing her clan to Fourtrees this night, and she knew her group could handle it. Emerging from the other side, odd eyes caught sight of the sacred group, hoping Starclan was in good spirits.

She kept her pace as she entered the small wood surrounding the clearing before, from the west, the sure sign of her lynx pointed face and sweeping mismtahced eyes burst through the treeline, clan in step. Her sodden tail raised as she made her presense known, but stranger still it seemed something was causing a stir. Underneath some paltry cover she could have sworn she saw the glimmer of fur, and her nostrils flared as much as they could to take in the scent.

When only the sharp scent of the storm could be detected, the she-cat padded closer, cautious and tense. For a moment her eyes flicked towards the sky, seeing only a glimmer of the full moon visible above. Only when she spotted a small, dark body emerge from the brush did her sodden spine tickle straight.

"Moosestar. Badgerstar. What is the meaning of this? What are these kits doing here, tonight of all times and here of all places?" A leveled hiss escaped her, although she continued into the clearing to approach the kit that had crawled out. Whatever insolence either Windclan or Thunderclan brought tonight made the she-cat blister irritably, the audacity!

Following behind her leader and mentor, a damp Brindlepaw easily kept pace with the warriors. Tail held high she was curious to see what tonight would bring - even if they might manage to nearly drown from it. Maybe some apprentices would be here tonight and they could all grumble about the weather Starclan sent!
But when the clan shuffled into the clearing and saw a small bundle of fur escape from beneath a veil of leaves, the she-cat stopped in her tracks. Indubiously her head shot up when she heard the accusations of the Shadowclan leader.

"What? Those aren't our kits." Huffing beneath her breath and hoping Moosestar would repremand her for her swift retort, even if it was the honest truth!

A soft voice echoed in his head, painting images of beauty from beyond the realities of the storm. So quickly his life had been uprooted, and so quickly every certainty stolen from him - fairness wasn't a consideration. Oh how he wished he could have stayed with his sire - the only other cat he really knew besides the comfort of his mother. Lost.

Deposited in some low hanging foliage, the soon to be Murkkit huddled close to the other warm bodies he had ever known. Together they had to stay strong - confusion and fear threatened to overwhelm him, and his dark blue eyes were slammed shut, recalling the pleasant scent of flowers and herbs that would stay with him the rest of his days.

"W-What if they don't come?" He mewed to his siblings, recalling a bit of conversation last heard by the cats that had brought them here. Those cats that would be their new home? Why couldn't he had just stayed with them and not these strangers. Poking his head out of the ferns, he squinted - seeing shapes decend upon them. He bolted back under the leaves, hoping he didn't look as scared as he felt.

With his tiny heart beating hard against his chest, he tiptoed out for every cat to see. His half adult, half kitten fluff poofed out if not for the damp strands clumping unseemly.

Sootpaw's worries about looking cool and mysterious towards the other apprentices evaporated when he saw the a kit poke it's head from the foliage. His mentor and the other leaders were bickering over who they belonged to... did it matter?

Without permission - like he cared at the moment - he slunk over to the bush where the kit was now peeking out of. Oh Starclan, there was more than one. As much as he wanted to scruff the little scraps of fur, he also didn't want to crowd them. If he was left out in the middle of nowhere and a bunch of weird cats were all around... he would want to run away. Sitting back, Sootpaw glanced at Palestar - sending a somewhat panicked look - before turning back at the kits and trying to keep a smile on his face.

"Hi! I'm Sootpaw of Shadowclan. I know you don't really know me, but it's pretty cold out. Do you need help? There are some really nice cats out here - if you don't want my help, maybe they can help you?"

WRENTALON

Wrentalon shook out his fur as he entered the clearing with his clan, the sight of an empty hollow giving him a tiny sense of victory at having been the first group to arrive. "I suppose every other cat is taking their sweet time to arrive," he mewed haughtily.
His amusement was short-lived, however, as the others soon entered the clearing. And then...a kit tumbled out from underneath a bush. He regarded it, stunned and confused, and then angry at the Shadowclan leader's remark. Remembering Sunstrike's warning, he held his tongue, his nose wrinkled in a snarl, as one of the apprentices instead muttered a snarky reply to Palestar. He glanced down at her, quickly amused again, and proud of the young cat's bravery. What a great apprentice you have, Moosestar, he couldn't help but think.

HERONSONG

Heronsong couldn't help but approach with Sootpaw, all of her attention suddenly rapt by this new, and seemingly alone, kit. At this moment, she couldn't care less about the leaders and their petty arguments. "Great Starclan," she uttered as she looked down at the tiny fluffball. "Where did you come from? Where is your mother?"

FALLKIT

Crouched underneath the brush, the little point tabby couldn't help but peer out through the foliage at every angle. He kept moving his head around leaves and branches, stepping over his siblings to get better looks at the strange-smelling place around them. He had no idea where his sire had left them all, or when he would be coming back. "They'll come," he answered his brother, no matter how much he believed it himself. He still wasn't understanding - who was this 'they' the four kits were waiting for?
As if suddenly receiving an answer, the kit nearly jumped at the sounds of cats entering the clearing. It sounded like a lot of cats, and more just kept coming. He wasn't fast enough to stop his brother from bolting out from their cover: "No, don't-!"
And then the other cats were gasping. And then they were asking questions. And arguing. He shrank back into the brush, his heart racing out of his little chest.

"What?" Shadesleek half-laughed at her sister, looking back to make sure she'd heard Boulderdash right and then looking ahead again to make sure she was seeing right. Her stride slowed a bit as she blinked in surprise and confusion. There really were kits.

"Who's mouse-brained enough to do that?" she muttered, then trotted down into the clearing.

She stopped more within range of WindClan's oak than within range of the kits and leaders, but rainwater flew off her tail as it swished from curiosity.

Dawnflurry politely pulled ahead of Palestar when he heard her hiss and saw a kit suddenly appear from the underbrush. The red and white tabby was more concerned about the kits being frightened, even if no one meant to scare them.

"Not to overstep, but—"

Dawnflurry began calmly, positioning himself more than slightly in his leader's and others' paths, trying to keep some space between the kits and their questioners. He faced them more than the kits, with his tail low and relaxed enough that he hoped the kits would understand that he at least meant them no harm.

The kit who'd shown themself so clearly wasn't very big, but small things could easily be lost... The last thing a Gathering needed was a strange litter bolting away during a storm. There was no way that would be a good omen.

"They seem just as perplexed as the kits," Dawnflurry noted plainly, as if someone had asked about the weather, but he looked over at Sootpaw and didn't hide pride from his face.

Mistyleaf noticed the change in Moosestar's gait before the reason why. The torbie warrior stopped and nearly froze at first when she saw that there truly were kits right there in the clearing. This was... well, not unheard of, but certainly unexpected!

Mistyleaf's tail-tip flicked and they futilely shook out their fur just to make themself move.

Palestar's remark and Brindlepaw's response just sort of floated around the warrior's ears rather than got her attention. Mistyleaf was more closely watching how others reacted to and who was approaching the kits.

She moved cautiously and ended up more between ThunderClan's oak and a possible escape route than between the kits and other cats. They didn't want to crowd the little things, but didn't want them to get hurt either...

As the rain had lulled Mistykit into a semi-doze, the quiet was reassuring until both Murkkit and Fallkit spoke, causing mismatched eyes to blink back open. As the sound of many cats approaching met her ears, Mistykit felt her fur begin to fluff up and her eyes widened in terror. Making herself appear twice her size, she arched her back and flattened her ears as Sootpaw, Dawnflurry, and Heronsong approached before feigning a swipe with her claws and hissing as fiercely as she could. If they wanted to hurt them, she would try and do damage to them first!

As another of the kits hopped from the bush, spitting and hissing, Sootpaw watched his sire place himself between the kits and other cats. He was probably right about not letting anyone near them, but at the same time they might freeze in the rain if no one grabbed them. He dipped his head as Dawnflurry looked at him - missing the pride in his father's eyes.

Wracking his brain - he honestly didn't have much experience with kits - Sootpaw let out a animated 'surprised' gasp and stretched out onto his belly so he was looking at the kits at eye level.

"Oh wow! You are very brave for protecting your siblings." He made no real move to push past his kin, instead trying to draw the kit's attention to him rather than at the bickering cats."When I was a kit, I wanted to learn how to fight, but you seem to have it down. My brother is a way better fighter than I was. His name is Ashpaw."

Leaning so that he was now laying on his side - arguably not a great position for when a fight might actually break out, but also not threatening in any way - he continued. "Do you know how to sneak too? I'm still learning to hunt but maybe you can show me a thing or two." Surprisingly, despite the rain, despite the high tensions, Sootpaw was actually being genuine in his surprise. The little puffball had a fighter's spirit.

Moosestar rose his head from his investigation as he realized the sound of pawstep, along with the lightest waft of scent that the rain allowed. Windclan. He turned to look at the cats Badgerstar, and then Palestar, lead into the clearing, shifting how he stood to show more confidence, rather than the unsure demeanor he had before.

"Calm yourself, Palestar."

Was his first response, his tail wavering in the air as his ears flicked about, working to keep an eye on the actions of the cats in the clearing, including his own. He specifically noticed Brindlepaw, who he glanced to. He stared for a moment, narrowing his eyes as if as a momentary, light scold before looking back to the other clan leaders.

"These kits were here when Thunderclan first arrived. There seems to be no scent on them, and they also seem to be young."

He looked to the kits, away from the Windclan and Shadowclan High Ranks. One was a little vicious, but the rest were rather quiet, scared of the great groups of cats that now surrounded by them. With no scent to claim them, no bloodline, or any indication of orientation.. they could be from anywhere.

He turned to the other Leaders and Deputies; his yellow eyes a bit wide.

"Perhaps, these kits are from StarClan."

WRENTALON

Wrentalon looked to his leader as if he were a mad hare. Why is all the world would Starclan just drop kits in the middle of nowhere? As he thought more, he looked to his sister.  Keeping his voice low, he approached and nudged her shoulder. "What is he talking about? Have you gotten a vision like this?"

HERONSONG

Heronsong crouched herself down, wrapping her tail around her paws. She let out a soft purr as Sootpaw tried to comfort the frightened kits, hoping it would help more. Carefully, she peered into the brush. There were four kits in total...who in their right mind would just abandon them?

FALLKIT

Creeping out to the edge of the bush, the pointed kit peered around at all the strangers in the clearing. His brother and sister were facing a couple of them, but all he could go was flick his wide blue eyes between all the cats. They were a big, ragged-looking lot, with more than a few of them boasting nasty-looking scars that he couldn't even fathom the sources from. None of their scents were familiar, either, and he tried to keep as close to each of his siblings as possible.

Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep
✧ ⭒ ♦ ⭒ ♖ ⭒ ♦ ⭒ ✧

Never in his life had he ever dreamed he'd be in the company of so many cats. Up until this morning he hadn't known anything else in his life and now bodies crowded around them. A white cat with flecks of black approached them, and Murkkit held his ground, deep blue eyes narrowing. Mistykit may have caught his attention though, giving them a assertive swat. His ears folded back against his skull, skulking to the side inch by inch. Body slung low to the ground and oblivious to any other, Murkkit tried to maneuver his way around Sootpaw and those intense eyes fell on his tail.

It was ironic when the apprentice spoke of hunting and stalking, as he was inevitably the target of the tomkit himself. Jumping to his feet, he launched himself at Sootpaw's tail - not even a yowl escaping him. He struck without a sound, maw open to try and get a mouthfull of fluff. Little did he know that Sootpaw's tactics were actually working and felt comfortable enough to try to impress his siblings.

Even if he didn't manage to get Sootpaw beneath his teeth, his eyes flicked to the grey she-cat (Heronsong) who he remembered asked about their mother. Deflated, the little tom sank to the wet ground, muttering. "Mother's gone. We were walking on a rocky path - and a Big Sound hit her. We barely made it across, but Mother didn't move. And she didn't follow." Murkkit didn't care about this Starclan that the brown tom seemed intent on, but it sounded important.

Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night
✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧

Palestar found herself in reluctant agreement with her deputy as those eyes studied the four small bodied partially hidden in the weeds. A part of her heart stirred from his words as if she was watching her own sister's kits, and these ones did seem similarly aged. The edges of the she-cat softened, if only a little, smoothing out her coat with a quick, considering tongue lap as she gave the kits room to breathe. Sootpaw was doing an admirable job among it all, her whole clan seemed sympathetic to this mystery. As mouse-brained as Moosestar seemed to be, they could at least agree on one thing. "Whoever left these kits meant for the clans to find them. Starclan, or otherwise." She kept her voice level, a collected note, as her eyes shifted to the treeline, expecting to see whoever left them reveal themselves. Or at least that old, flat-pawed Boldstar to show his drenched hide, at least. Perhaps the medicine cats would know more...

Fawnbriar had been watching the kits quietly as Sootpaw interacted with them. Once last time, she tried to shake the excess water from her fur before padding slowly, carefully, towards the litter of four. They all seemed terrified, with one reacting out of fear, while a second began a squeaking explanation after having pounced on Sootpaw's tail.

"Oh, you poor darlings." She mewed, her voice soft an sympathetic. It was wet and cold, the kits were obviously frightened and had lost their mother. She remembered burrowing into Brightmaple's soft, warm belly for comfort when she had felt similarly when she had been growing up.Hoping she wasn't overstepping, the chocolate tortoishell and white she-cat did the only thing she could think of to try and help the kits. Lifting her body, she attempted to gently brood the three kittens cowering together, offering her soft and warm- albeit soggy- belly fur for comfort to the poor kittens.

Mistykit watched as Murkkit inched closer to Sootpaw and began stalking the older tom's tail. Then he began speaking to one of the even bigger cats, telling them what happened to their mother. She stayed where she was, pressed against her other two siblings, letting Murkkit do the talking until giving a muffled squeak as another form began to suddenly press close. She hadn't noticed any of the bigger cats making their way over to them with her attention on Murkkit, and despite being fluffed up and having tried to scare them away, Mistykit realized she had obviously failed. But the wind and rain was blocked as warmth from the larger body began to soak into her cold, weary form. Slowly, the lilac she-kit began to deflate and her fur smooth as she was offered the comfort she had been seeking, even if the she-cat offering it wasn't her mother. This would do. For now.

By the time the clan arrived at Fourtrees, Tigerrush as glad for the pause before going down into the clearing. She had somehow stumbled upon a thorn and was taking the moment to pull it from her paws. Therefore, she had yet to notice the hubbub taking place before her until she had finished her chore.

Ears perking curiously, the tabby medicine cat hurriedly made her way towards the group, eyes widening as she noticed the Windclan deputy attempting to comfort and warm a litter of kittens. Listening to what was being said, Moosestar's words tickled at a small part of her memory. A gift from Starlclan? Then her brother, Wrentalon, shifted closer to nudge her and whisper a question to her. A vision of kits? No, but maybe....

"A piece of hope for every clan by full moon's light....." She quoted what Dustpaw had said in the vision she had seen. "Bearing gifts of new beginnings....." Her green eyes suddenly went wide and her tail suddenly shot straight up in the air. Tigerrush hurriedly looked around to see if she could see Rowanglade or Flutterdream. Were they thinking the same thing she was?

"I think Moosestar and Palestar are right!" She raised her voice to try to be heard over the other cat's voices. "I think these kits are Starclan's gift of new beginnings to us!"

Boulderdash watched what was going on with quiet curiosity from where she sat next to her darker sister. They wouldn't be able to say this Gathering wasn't interesting! Her ears twitched at the Thunderclan medicine cat's words. "Starclan's gift?" She repeated to Shadesleek, feeling puzzled. "Are they trying to say we're not having enough kits fast enough?" Well, even if that was what Starclan was saying, Boulderdash knew for a fact that she for certain was not currently up for having a litter at this point in time.

Brightpaw hadn't strayed from the sides of his clanmates, his tail twitching from side to side. His sky blue gaze observes the cats of the other clans and occasionally gives the kits notice, as if trying to see through some sort of plot. Truthfully, he was uneasy without his mentor in such a bizarre scenario but he was steadfast in his attempt to not let it show, quietly hoping he is doing a good job of hiding it.

"Are we sure that this isn't a trap of some sort?" He finally asks, looking up at his superiors for some sort of guidance. "It could just be the rain but they don't smell right. They might be bait of some sort, a way to distract us from a waiting threat, set by one of the other clans or by some vengeful outsiders." He huffs, sitting down and bringing his tail around to cover his paws, turning back to scrutinize the other cats. "Just doesn't feel right to me."

-

Poor Coyotekit was frozen when presented with the vast amount of cats. She had never seen this many other felines in the entirety of her life and while she wanted to hope they were friendly, she couldn't help but wonder. While all four of them had been protected from the worst of the rain by the shrubbery, she still felt far too cold and wet and tried her best to maintain body contact with her siblings in an attempt to keep warm from their collective body heat. So when her sister and brothers tumbled into view, she couldn't help but stick close by their sides. If these cats wanted to hurt them all, they likely would have already done so. Emboldened by this realization and the friendliness of this Sootpaw cat, the lavender kitten stepped forward.

"Are you the ones that are supposed to save us?" What confidence she had was overshadowed by the squeak of her voice, her still baby blue eyes silently begging any of these strangers for some sort of reassurance. "The cats that were going to show up were supposed to help and you showed up so it has got to be you, right?"

WRENTALON

The brown tabby was only able to watch his sister, still amazed at her connection to their ancestors. Then he looked to Moosestar, expectant.

HERONSONG

Heronsong's heart ached at the little kits' words. A big sound hitting their mother? Cats supposed to save them? She looked at the Windclan deputy trying to provide them with some comfort, slightly admiring her for her caregiving efforts. The poor little wretches... She looked up to Palestar, trying to figure out what was going to happen next to them as the Thunderclan medicine cat spoke about Starclan. Then she heard someone mention something about a trap.

"A trap?" she murmured, keeping her confused anger out of her mew. "What kind of trap would involve abandoned kits?"

FALLKIT

Waterfall leaned against his sister as she asked for reassurance. Coyote--or Coyotekit or whatever her name was supposed to be now--was colder now that they were all out in the open, instead of cuddled together like they had been. The queen trying to comfort them was not their mother, and her scent was strange, but Mistykit seemed alright enough. He was still shaken, though, and scared. He couldn't think of what to do but watch these older cats.

The aim of an argument is not victory, but progress
✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧ ⭒ ✧

The Thunderclan leadership’s comments made Sootpaw roll his eyes. “Ah yea, and for their next trick they’ll send a mouse to the gathering to tell us their newest prophecy. A very secure way to deliver messages.” Kits from Starclan, what a silly idea. “Besides. They already have messenger cats-“ He was interrupted by a fluffball attacking his tail – before he even had time to comprehend the consequences of his comment.

“Ahh! A surprise attack? You are a very good hunter after all!” Sootpaw’s acting left a lot to be desired, but he rolled over in pretend surrender. “Palestar! You’re going to have to change my warrior name to Half-Tail now!” He very, VERY slowly brought his front paw down to with sheathed claws to try and tap the bitey kit on the head –hopefully encouraging the kits to attack him – and distract them from listening to the (arguably silly) politics of the Leaders. His belly was nice and exposed for their tiny little claws after all. Any smart cat would take the opportunity to pounce.

He looked up at Heronsong at the mention of ‘Big Sound” and a rocky path. Perhaps Thunderpath? But how on earth did they make it all the way to Fourtrees? Palestar was probably right that someone wanted them to find them. He flicked his tail in front of the kit’s face to try and entice them to chase it again, rather than dwell on clearly distressing memories. The gathering was probably distressing enough. It didn't help that he certainly wasn't a cat to be saving anyone, yet these little ones were waiting for someone.

"Who told you there were cats coming to this place?" His voice wasn't accusatory - more curious as he looked at the little lavender thing that had spoken to him. "We come here to gather- more often than any other cat."

"But why send random kits then?" Shadesleek whispered back to her sister. "Wouldn't they want them to be Clanborn?"

She turned her ear as Brightpaw spoke up. It wasn't totally impossible that the kits could be bait, but... "I dunno who'd be fox-brained enough to try us," she told him confidently at a more normal volume, "but whoever'd use little kits as bait is definitely not trustworthy..."

"Sootpaw," Dawnflurry meowed evenly but very specifically to get his son's attention, "we don't want to overwhelm the kits with too much information." It didn't seem like the kit who went for Sootpaw's tail was very overwhelmed though. Dawnflurry hoped the apprentice understood his subtlety, but as he watched Sootpaw distract the kit, he wondered if he'd even heard him...

A gift for new beginnings? Mistyleaf thought upon hearing Tigerrush. Their heart felt caught in their chest. Taking a breath, the warrior padded closer to where the medicine cat was and added their voice to the chorus of confusion.

"I-I agree with Tigerrush," Mistyleaf meowed. She tried to hide the glance she shot Sootpaw at his comment to Palestar and ended up looking from the apprentice to the other leaders and warriors. "And Moosestar and Palestar. It would not make sense for kits to be a ruse, and there is precedent!"

That time, the glance to Sootpaw was intentional, though she also focused on Fawnbriar for a moment. How quickly the deputy had taken to sheltering the kits (or at least trying to) was heartening.

"StarClan has done this before," Mistyleaf murmured, unsure who they were truly trying to address at this point. Their tail curled a bit around their hind legs. "As we know."

Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep

Now that he suspected the white and black cat knew what they were capable of, Murkkit stepped back into the bodies of his siblings. While he was soggy and a bit chilly he would have accepted any offer for comfort, and he couldn't help but throw back his head with a yawn. Murk was exhausted by his efforts and stumbled into the welcome belly of the she-cat with folded ears on offer, eyes catching the orange and white tabby and lynx pointed she-cat, skirting around them before he half curled into Misty. He gave a pitiful little mew, ignoring any more questioning - he wasn't here to be interrogated, he wanted to be cared for. He wanted his sire to come back, but without Mother, he wasn't sure. All he knew was that he could never return to his old life with Mother - and these cats had better make sure they suited them. He listened half-heartedly as the older cats talked amongst themselves, wishing the storm would die down soon. Even as the light of the full moon peered down upon them, droplets of water falling, refreshing the land.

The lilac colored Coyote returns the gesture when her brother Waterfall leans against her, pushing up against him almost like a silent encouragement to use her as a support. All of these strange cats interrogating the lot of them was truthfully making her uncomfortable, anxiety dancing through her nerves like static electricity. Still, she felt the need to stand up for her siblings and so she soldiered through the nervousness.

"A big tom. He isn't necessarily a stranger, we've seen him a couple times before, but he isn't really familiar. We think he is our sire, our father. Maybe." She verbally backpedaled, uncomfortable for speaking for the others in case they might disagree with whatever she might say. "He took us here and told us to wait. He said that cats would show up and that they would take us. And you did!"

Sootpaw didnt like the way the Thunderclan she-cat just talked over him. He didn't know of any kits at gatherings. 'We' all did not know! He kept his hackles from rising but couldnt stop his ears from flattening as he looked at her.

Still, the little lilac kit did provide some answers. So the cat that brought them here was living. Or at least - corporeal and around prior to these kits appearing at the fourtrees.

Maybe the tom was a clan cat! That would make sense. That way the kits could be a part of the clans and the father wouldn't have to admit to siring unknown kits. Sootpaw looked over all the cats at the gathering - wondering if any of them were responsible. Maybe... the Thunderclan leader seemed quick to associate the kits with Starclan...

((Who, from RiverClan: Boldstar, *Deputy*, Willowfrost, Nettlepaw, Thornstrike, and Briarfang))

Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.

‹‹‹‹ ››››

”Four kits by four trees for four clans has been done before.” Rowanglade had kept back from the confused crush of cats. She now slipped forward, watching as her own deputy tried to mother the lost kits like a partridge hen. ”I’m sure it will be done again, too, as a message to color some generation to come after all of us have joined StarClan.”*

She moved closer, next to Fawnbriar so she could look over the four sad little creatures.

There are heroes and then there are legends,
heroes get remembered but legends never die.

✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻ ✻

Savagefox has taken their time to reach Fourtrees. They’d instead made a circuit of the area on the outside edges of Fourtrees. With this rain Savagefox was fairly certain no one would even smell the few foxlengths they’d been over the boundaries let alone notice. Too bad there was no opportunity to step on ShadowClan lands, too. They’d made it as far as the lone unclaimed trees before turning back, though.

What Savagefox arrived to was a scene that made them want to hiss and spit blood. ”Those are outsiders. A test, not a gift. They need to be dealt with.” There was a slight growl in their voice and the hackles along their spine started to rise while their tail puffed. Interlopers that StarClan would be proud to see handled appropriately!

Out with the old - In with the bold

‹‹‹‹ ››››

Boldstar knew they were late, but it couldn’t be helped. A two-leg had occupied the bridge while they banged away with some sort of stick to bind the flat sections of tree to the surface in the way of two-legs. At least the creature hadn’t stayed long, only long enough to lay a new section of tree over what had been a rotting spot. After that RiverClan was free to make their way in peace. Had be been much long he would have been forced to try chancing a trip south along the river to the line of stepping stones. In this weather swimming it wasn’t an option.

Arriving late meant they had only just made it in time to hear a dripping ThunderClanner rumble something about Outsiders. Boldstar lived up to his name, moving through the gathered cats with confidence (any who got in his way he fully intended to simply walk directly through, size had advantages). Boldstar came onto the scene of Fawnbriar fussing over kits.

”Why did WindClan bring kits?” Confusion was the primary emotion held in his voice.

Boldstar ♂ Leader of RiverClan
Prudence ♀ Wanderer of Whitehart
Rowanglade ♀ Medicine Cat of WindClan
Savagefox ⚥ Warrior of ThunderClan

rise from the smoldering pyre of wormwood and weeds

Nettlepaw flanked his mentor, yet probably didn't need to be so close. Must have been a habit of helping her see where she needed to go, but with this many cats - it wasn't necessary. Still, he felt a sort of obligation to make the journey as smooth as possible, and with waiting for that troubling two leg on the bridge, it seemed that riverclan arrived last, and to a throng of gathered cats. He could feel the confusion tense his paw falls, but nevertheless, he casually followed Boldstar as he made his way to the front of the crowd gathered - around a gaggle of sopping kits? Immediately his leader's voice seemed to dull in his ears as his eyes searched for the other medicine cats, when he barely heard the tail end of Rowanglade's statement. What had been done before?

Nettlepaw's head suddenly turned slow to regard the hostile looking ginger tom who stank of thunderclan. Half a tooth could be seen from his soundless snarl, a look of utter contempt. "I suggest you calm down. Dealt with? How do you suppose you'd 'deal with' kits, thunderclanner? At a Gathering of all places - Starclan would not approve of any violent measures towards them, especially." Use your head! He wanted to scream, unapologetically. He wondered if Willowfrost had any interjection, but at this point, couldn't help but stare at the kits. Other than the old stories of Hopekit, he could only bring back one other remnant of information - about the four kits who were found and divided among the clans. Four for the future.

WRENTALON

Wrentalon wanted to growl at Riverclan's lateness. He wasn't going to start any fights, like he'd said, but it was taking all his strength not to flex out his claws at the blatant disrespect for the rest of them. At least there was a bigger issue to care about.

As for the kits, he didn't know what to think. Yes, the four kits were interlopers, as Savagefox had pointed out, but...they were kits. Young enough that even he could find no reason to treat them as anything but. He resigned himself to his sister's word, keeping his mouth shut as he refused to argue with a possible assignment from Starclan.

FALLKIT

Fallkit huddles closer to his siblings and the she-cat as even more cats arrived. Some of them started hissing, and he gave a small yelp as one cat snapped about 'dealing' with him in a not-very-nice tone. Not even registering it, he nearly hid behind the motherly she-cat, jumping in between her forelegs as he sensed the argument escalating.

HERONSONG

Without thinking much, Heronsong got to her paws and hurried over to the frightened kit. She gave him a few soft licks between the ears, shooting a rueful glare at the ginger Thunderclan warrior.

Tigerrush looked relieved as Rowanglade's statement seemed to be in tandem with what she had suspected. Her ears twitched at both the Windclan apprentice's comment and Savagefox's words. "Starclan stated these kits would be gifts of new beginnings to us. Besides, any kit is a gift in it's own right and are innocent. As for being dealt with, Rowanglade and I have stated our stance on these kits. It's up to our leaders to decide what they will do with the information given to them."

When Boldstar approached, Fawnbriar looked up at him with her bright copper eyes before starting to bring him up to speed. "They are not Windclan kits, Boldstar. Apparently, their dame had been killed and the they were brought here, abandoned in the wet and cold all alone."

She lowered her head to offer gentle licks and soft purrs to the trembling kits cuddled up to her. She shifted to let Rowanglade get a better look while Fawnbriar herself attempted to soothe and temporarily dry them. It was the least she could do while the leaders decided what to do with the poor abandoned creatures.

"Rowanglade and Tigerrush are saying that Starclan guided whoever left them here and the kits are gifts to be divided between the four clans."

Sootpaw brightened at the arrival of the newest apprentice, and raised his tail in greeting as Riverclan arrived. He had questions for them about swimming!

Getting up from his relaxed position, he very carefully positioned himself so he was in between Savagefox and the kits - acting as if it was on a whim rather than intentional.Thunderclan was such a weird bunch of cats. Maybe they needed more sleep? Or maybe the blandness of forest prey was getting to them. " Why don't you pick on someone your own size. Threatening helpless kits - what's wrong with you?" He chastised the Thunderclan Warrior.

"Well, what are we going to do with 'em?" He doubted Starclan's involvement but it wasn't right to just leave them here! "You're not thinking of seperating them, are you? They just lost their dame and sire. We can't just... divide them up!" He looked at Palestar - somewhat distraught.
