A Friendly Hunting Patrol

Smiling cheerfully, the events of that morning already behind her, she walked with the hunting patrol, being sure not to crunch any leaves or twigs so as not to scare the prey. Ignoring the small chatter that the other patrol members were having so as not to intrude, she slowly veered to the right, knowing that her presence was probably unsettling. Besides, there were more squirrels to the right, she could just feel it!

As she walked, she made sure that she didn't get too far away from the patrol, in case they were attacked by a wild animal and also so that she wouldn't get lost. If she wasn't careful, she'd probably lose her way despite the familiar terrain. Twitching her ears, she dropped into a crouch, spotting a plump vole searching for food.

Sneaking up on it, she leapt forward stealthily, killing it so swiftly it barely had time to let out a terrified cry. Gripping it in her jaws, her mouth watering, she ignored the temptation, taking a small stroll to where they were stashing the prey they caught, dropping it in the pile that was hidden beneath a thick bush.

As she turned around, she caught a glimpse of somecat in the bushes further away, but when she looked closer, they were gone. Maybe they didn't want her to know that they had been there? Or maybe it was her imagination? Hungry cats aren't always the most sensible...

Brushing all of her inward assumptions away, she trotted away, hearing the sounds a nearby squirrel chattering. If there was somecat, it was probably a member of the patrol making sure she didn't get lost. She was a younger warrior, so it made sense that some other cat on the patrol would be watching over her.
