The dewy grass felt pleasantly cool against Jasper's pavement-hardened paw pads. Passing through Whitehart had put him at ease, more than he would have thought possible before leaving his colony. He was pleased with the cooling weather; being a black, fairly long-furred cat, summer's heat had been less than comfortable. He halted a step behind Kosmo and followed his gaze. Whatever the other cat saw in the vegetation remained invisible to him. 

For a few beats, Jasper waited, hoping that Kosmo didn't really expect him to reply to his almost certainly rhetorical question. "...Food and sleep?" Jasper guessed doubtfully once the pause had gone on long enough. 

His insides squirmed self-consciously. Joining SkyClan had been by far the most interesting and consequential thing he had ever managed to do, and he couldn't help but wonder, if he made it too obvious he frankly had little to no idea what was going on, would Kosmo take his offer back? Hunting he had experience with (hunting in Whitehart, anyway), and he could defend himself fairly well, but about everything else beyond Whitehart he was clueless. It was exciting when he was on his own but embarrassing the moment he had company.

Jasper's answer was certainly the foundation of what made a cat act and behave normally. Kosmo mismatched eyes moved from the vegetation back toward the black, mif furred tom. "A body can't fight without those things." His lightly into the damp earth as he continued along the edge of the road.

"With enough food and rest a cat can face any challenge with thoretical confidence head on - but we are here for the opposite. For what makes a cat tremble with uncertainty...And for what the body will try to reject."

The cinnamon tom paused near the tree line, looking across the road toward the distant forest beyond. Hidden beyond the layered scents and foliage was where they would stand. Jasper may not be entirely privy to a sparrow's secrets, but certainly he was aware of the medicine cat's talents.

"Search for earthen pods between the clumps of grass. They will have benefitted from the recent rainfall and swelled up by now..." He tipped his nose down into a patch of emerald stalks, whiskers alert as if the muddied scent wouldn't tip him off first as he hummed to himself.
