Goosesong lumbered into the medicine den, his paws were quick but careful with Stoneclaw lazily stumbling forward at his side. Stoneclaw's grey tabby fur was matter and wounded from what had seemed to be a furious and ferocious battle with the rogue... after all, who else could it have been?
"Nettleplume." Goosesong called out, his voice wasn't panicked, but perhaps it was a little strained. This could be the last time Stoneclaw could have been seen moving through the camp, and it was with a trail of blood following him... Stoneclaw's blood.
Goosesong directed his sire to rest in one of the nests and Stoneclaw was too light-headed to argue. The large silver tom adjusted his father to be in a comfortable position, not for Stoneclaw, but so it would be easy for Nettleplume to treat him... if he could be treated.
"The rogue again, she got Stoneclaw." He added, sitting beside his sire as his breathing slowed. Goosesong narrowed his eyes. Goosesong knew deep down that Stoneclaw wouldn't have made it to retirement... whether it was how much he worked that would have killed him or the rogue. Goosesong had a feeling he wouldn't be with Stoneclaw much longer.

Nettleplume spun at the sound of Goosesong’s voice and whatever he’d been sorting moments before fell forgotten as Stoneclaw staggered into view. Seeing him like that felt like a blow. And there was too much blood.
"Stars above...." Nettleplume snapped, already lunging for the nearest wad of moss. His anger wasn’t loud but it was razor sharp as he pressed the moss firmly against the worst of the wounds.
Stoneclaw had lost far more than Nettleplume liked to see in a living cat.
"You should have stopped out there." He growled squarely at Goosesong. "You should have packed these wounds before dragging him back. Field medicine exists for a reason."
But even through the hiss of frustration his paws worked with ruthless efficiency. The cream tabby packed more moss against the deep gouge along Stoneclaw’s flank and more against the torn shoulder. His movements were steady even as his plumed tail lashed.
Nettleplume leaned low, ear pressed briefly to Stoneclaw’s chest. The heartbeat was there...subtle but present.
"The fact that he's alive at all is testament to his stubbornness." Then his gaze flicked sharply back to Goosesong as he went to prepare something for the pain. "Tell me exactly what happened."

Goosesong's jaw tightened, but he didn't flinch under Nettleplume's glare. He stayed planted where he was, broad shoulder's squared, his tail still for once. When he finally spoke, his voice was low, gravel-edged and steady.
"He wouldn't let me" He said flatly. "I tried to pack the wounds. He refused every word of it that I suggested." His eyes flicked to Stoneclaw, his father, nearly unrecognizable beneath the blood, then back to Nettleplume.
"At the gorge Cottonbright and I found him already wounded. The rogue, the tortoiseshell, had already torn into him. By the time I got there he was half collapsed, but was still trying to go after her." There was no pride in his tone, only a tightly bridled frustration. "He wouldn't lean on me. Snarled the whole way. Snapped at Cottonbright when she came to help."
Goosesong shifted, a slight bristle rippling through his fur, not from anger at Nettleplume, but from the memory of Stoneclaw's staggering form. "I told him that if he didn't want to die, he would let us take him back." He said bluntly. "That's the only reason he let us bring him in at all." He drew in a slow breath, letting it out hard through his nose.
"If it were up to me," he added, quieter but no less direct, "he'd have been treated the moment we found him. But he refused everything except coming home. We did what we could without arguing with him and making it worse."
Goosesong finally dipped his head, not apologetic, but acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. "She nearly killed him, Nettleplume." He finished, voice low. "If you can save him now, it'll be because you're faster than his stubbornness."
