Despite having already been Heatherpaw's mentor for a moon, Bayflower still wasn't used to this whole mentoring thing. Sure he made plans and could identify Heatherpaw's strengths and weaknesses but the whole was still just a bit daunting. The feline really wanted to make a positive impact on the molly but anxieties occupied the back of her mind. This was an honour he would not take for granted, they would be the best mentor they could for young Heatherpaw.
The molly led Heatherpaw to the centre of the Plateau, deciding to start with a little quiz to figure out what they needed to work on.
"Alright, Heatherpaw. Tell me, is there any prey around?"

Heatherpaw trotted a few paces behind Bayflower, her paws brushing through the dry grasses of the Plateau as the morning sun warmed her back. She still felt a flutter in her chest every time they trained part excitement, part nerves. Bayflower was her mentor. Her mentor. That still felt unreal sometimes.
When they stopped, she looked around with wide aqua eyes, ears twitching at the wind. At Bayflower’s question, her nose scrunched in concentration, and she lowered her head slightly, drawing in a slow breath like she'd been taught.
"...Uhm..." Her nose twitched again, but all she could catch was the scent of grass, old rabbit trails, and something faintly mossy...maybe Bayflower? Her face fell just a touch. "I... I don’t think so? I mean, maybe? It just smells like... wind and grass right now. I can’t tell if it’s anything fresh." Heatherpaw looked up at Bayflower with a sheepish, uncertain flick of her tail. "Was I supposed to smell something?”
