The jitters ate at him like biting flies. Even in the dead of night it seemed like the moon cast judgement on him as he took those forlorn steps into Fourtrees. He hadn't exactly remembered when he had told her to meet him, or what time, but when he arrived by the rock, he was alone.

In the long hours it seemed a small eternity until he heard a rustle in the treeline. He froze, finding every hair on edge as he believed it could be some other cat set to attack him... but it was only the cream coat of Clovershine as she broke free of the underbrush. Her scent wafted over him, reassuring, though only a small relief.

"Clovershine." Voice dimmed in the hushed tones of their secretive meeting, there was both a comfort and a sadness to his voice. It was clear that he was on edge, even now. "It's good to see you too. I wasn't sure if - if you'd come. How have you been?"

"Of course." Clovershine replied, giving her tail an brisk flick. Though her pleased expression dimmed slightly as she recognized how uncertain and overall sad Cloudflare looked when he spoke, his greeting wasn't out of the ordinary, but the way her spoke sent a wave of worry and concern of the ShadowClan queen; one that wouldn't go away unless she understood what was wrong and tried to help.

"I'm well, Dazzlekit, Redkit and Murkkit are growing fine" She thought it was only the polite thing to do to reply to his question before voicing her concerns, it was of course a worried tone that would betray her concern for the WindClan tom. "What's the matter? You seem rather upset" She fretted, her ears lowering and her eyebrows furrowing with worry.

The lynx point tabby queen sat beside Cloudflare, looking at him with a supportive yet still worried look in her bright blue eyes. "Whatever it is you can tell me, is your clan alright? Are you alright?" She asked, she trusted Cloudflare and hoped that he could trust her as well. Well she did bare his kits and was caring for them so she certainly believed some element of trust was there.

Great, now Clovershine was picking up on the vibe. It was like an itch he couldn't shake. It wasn't fair to expect her to carry the burden of wondering what was the matter. His head inclined just a bit, allowing his eyes to close to try and picture her kittens as she named them. Redkit and Dazzlekit, and Murkkit too, although he wasn't one hundred percent sure whhich one had been the gathering foundling. Obviously she would have been chosen to raise him.

He wanted to curl up into her and allow her scent to comfort him like it had once done. "I want us and the kits to live happy and safe lives." He blurted out, feeling a bit crestfallen as he spoke. "I'm glad they are doing well - I'm glad you're doing well." His ears flattened with worry as he stole a step closer, the tip of his tail twitching as he stole a hurried glance over his shoulder. There was nothing there except the twirl of grass and the sound of crickets in the distance.

"But don't you think it's dangerous to keep meeting like this, behind our clans' backs? What if we were to get caught together one of these days." Exile was awful enough when it was just you, but what if you had to leave behind family? "I'm so grateful for you, Clovershine . I just don't want to see you hurt."

When Cloudflare began speaking, his tone was one that was upset and worried, Clovershine had expected this, but nothing could have really prepared her to stop meeting her close friend. The queen's ears lowered, not completely flattened, but lowered to the point it was clear how she was feeling on the situation. She knew it would end this way, but she felt it was so soon, but she heard his reasoning and gave a somber nod.

"I understand Cloudflare, you have no need to worry anymore" Clovershine replied pressing her nose to his shoulder as a form of comfort to the red tabby and white tom. "If you are this worried about this, we both know what has to happen. We can't do this much longer, can we?" She spoke, though her question was more rhetorical than anything else. She would of course see Cloudflare at gathering when she went back to her duties, but that felt so long away, and yet so short since her kittens will be becoming apprentices one of these moons.

Clovershine felt it was appropriate to let the silence set in, to let the decision wash over the two before saying anything more. The tabby queen sighed silently and dipped her head to the red tabby, waiting for a few more moments, just a few more moments with him was something she needed to be comforted by the whole thing.

Even if she had expected it, she always thought she would always have more time to meet with Cloudflare, even if they had spent a moon together, or many seasons. "I agree, it's best for both of us"

Why hadn't Clovershine been born Windclan? It would have made this whole situation that much easier. Had they both rushed into this due to their feelings? Yes. Cloudflare was swept away from the majesty of it all and he had come to care for the shadowclan queen and her story. It wasn't easy being a warrior after what she went through.

As she neared, he couldn't help but inch a bit closer to her presence. He wanted to comfort her as her words did him. If this were the last they met, aside from the occasional Gathering, it would be a farewell worth risking their lives for. Closing in the distance he shuffled close, his mouth inclining over her shoulder as he tried to reassure her with a few licks of his tongue.

"It's impossible to not think about you and how you are doing."
