Wrentalon's gaze swept the sandy hollow. Part of him was anxious--no, excited--and he could feel it prick in his paws. The ground was good, not too wet, and the air was just a little bit on the cooler side. Perfect to warm up in.
"Alright," he said to his apprentice, the corner of his mouth twisted in a grin, "time for some battle training."

Rimepaw practically burst out of her skin when she heard her mentors suggestion. Nothing made her more excited to become a warrior than some battle practice. The ground even felt sturdy under her paws - Good. Wrentalon would need it to keep up with her!
Her whiskers twitched with excitement. "About time!" She meowed with a droning sort of yawn to shake off the remnants of her nap. But her eyes were sharp and focused as she made sure to keep the older tom in her sights - no telling if he'd pull a fast one on her. He probably expected it from her...but she'd wait.

Wrentalon chuckled at his apprentice’s eagerness. Of course she was excited. He didn’t anticipate his job to be easy. “Finally,” he agreed. “But we have to start with the basics–you’ll need a good foundation to become a great warrior.”
He turned to face her, lowering his body in a defensive posture. “Now. Show me where you should aim your attacks."

Rimepaw’s tail flicked once, sharp and thoughtful, as she mirrored his stance just enough to show she was taking this seriously. Her mismatched eyes tracked him from nose to paws, sizing him up like prey instead of her mentor.
"If I wanted to hurt you…" She began, tone matter-of-fact... "…or really provoke you, I'd go for your face. Eyes or ears to get you mad and sloppy." Her gaze slid to his tail next, a glint of mischief there. "Tail too. Throw your balance off."
Then she shifted her weight, lowering her shoulders and angling herself slightly to the side. Rimepaw could spent all morning telling Wrentalon how she'd do it, but she believed in action. She'd try and trip him up and go low at his paws - or would that be what he'd be expecting?
The frosted tan colored apprentice lunged for Wrentalon, trying to aim for his non dominant side - and swiped her paw at his back leg.
