Frost-kissed fur hides a fiery spirit

Rimepaw's ears flicked at the praise, but she tried not to let it swell her head - at least too obviiously. She rose from the stream giving one forepaw a brisk shake before stretching long through her spine, claws flexing into the damp soil before bouncing back on her toes, proper and battle ready.

"A couple more?" A laugh erupted from her, brisk and barking. "I could go all day."

She rolled her shoulders to test out her muscles. Being young and youthful had its perks. "Even if I'm sore tomorrow. I like this part better than nest-making or wall-checking, don't you?"

From the open woods on ThunderClan's side the breeze shifted, bringing with it an unknown scent. It came faint at first an unfamiliar, non-ThunderClan smell. It's foriegn musk might have been remembered from the corpse of a murdered warrior. Of a dam stolen.

Rimepaw was a bit slow to notice as she tried to shuffle around some paw placement to warm up for their next bout.

Rimepaw may have been slow to pick up the scent, but when she did the hairs along her spine spiked with seething aggression. Not only was a stranger on their land but they were interupting thier training session! She'd send them packing whoever they were - The corner of her eyes caught the tail signal and Rimepaw frowned over at her mentor.

Ears flicked back as she followed, nostrils picking up the stranger's scent as they passed an old oak with flayed bark. It was stronger now. Head ducked and posture angled like a wild cat Rimepaw's gaze narrowed on a stocky scarred tortie snacking on stolen prey - a mangled bluebird.

Only there was a half eaten vole a few fox lengths away too! It didn't take a genius to put together the pieces from the stories she had heard spoken aloud or in secret. They had the element of surprise - Rimepaw wouldn't wait for the rogue to notice them.

With a flying leap and a few well placed kicks, Rimepaw was on Gemini in a flurry of claws and yowls. Two on one with the advantage of striking first gave her the courage - and perhaps recklessness - to attack!

Gemini whirled when weight sank into her shoulder, hissing madly as her claws swiped a shaking arc of fury, catching the whip like length of Rimepaw's tail but the apprentice barely noticed. She and Wrentalon could do it...They could bring this horrible rogue down if they tried!

There was no way Rimepaw was going to withdraw now that her strike had landed. Only time would tell if she would be repremanded for her hastiness or the fact she was so young, but the thoughts have never crossed her mind. Not only was she protecting her Clan from a dangerous stranger, she was a murderer too.

Gemini's body weaved in and out of the foliage like a snake despite her bulk, ducking and snapping, swiping and half rearing. Her second duck lowered her head enough for the tom's swipe towards her face to miss while she rounded on the smaller she-cat with a yowl.

Nearly flattening herself, she leveraged underneath the she-cat and through her legs on the other side, giving Wrentalon another oppertunity to strike. Gemini howled as her jaws shot out like a viper at Wrentalon's shoulder hoping to use her size to barrel him over.

Rimepaw wanted to bury her fangs into her throat and wait for the last throngs of life to stir out from her body. This rogue had caused them so much suffering and she wasn't going to let her get away. She pestered the tortie with swipes and jabs, wheeling around at all sides.

Gemini's own mouth felt the warmness of blood as her teeth sank into his shoulder. Tortie fur flashed from her pelt as the tom clawed at her, catching in long, knotted whisps and ripping them out. Claws caught too, stinging but it seemed as if pain barely registered. A well timed nip at her flank unhooked her jaws on Wrentalon and kicked back. It was barely a moment before that large frame began her retreat, surprisingly fast for her size.

The large she-cat ripped away in a sudden rush of motion, kicking her legs as she scrambled towards the border. Rimepaw hooked a paw into her hip, but the erratic motions and a buck ended her grip which sent the apprentice rolling into some burdock.

Gemini tore into the underbrush, sending debris flying as she bore her way to the border and beyond.

Rimepaw tumbled, skirting over the prickly burdock spurs that dug into her pelt, catching on her chest where her fringe was longest. She wasted no time getting back to her paws, huffing a quick. "I'm fine! Go!" Once the she-cat had gone from their sight, who knew where she fled to. The quicker they could confirm she was off ThunderClan land the better.

Meanwhile, Gemini cut through the grass, trampling everything in her path without a care of if she would be followed or not. There would be other cats not as aware as these two and it woudln't be the last time ThunderClan would be graced with a visit.
