It was one of the coolest days of the Moon of Long Sun; one of the best for such a necessary session. Today, Brindlepaw was to learn of simple battle techniques; her vulnerabilities and simple strikes and blocks. They would be a perfect starting point to get the apprentice into the more violent part of a warrior's life.
Sweeping his tail just above the ground, Moosestar leaped down into the sandy hollow. His paws instinctively spread out to catch himself and minimize sliding on the sand. Looking up, he watched Brindlepaw for her to leap down.
"Have I told you yet what I have planned for today?"
He asked, the light giddiness he felt for getting an apprentice into battle training pittering at his mind. While some apprentices were ridiculously rambunctious about getting their paws battle-ready, Brindlepaw was an interesting case. She seemed determined and excited for all she was taught- except for the obvious, of course.
He was curious at how her boundless determination would translate into this.

Brindlepaw was thankful for the break in the torrid weather. The hot sun wasn't so easy on an apprentice heel deep in apprenticeship duties. She had awoken today with the hope of doing something more than just the menial that was duty of all apprentices to help around camp, so when Moosestar summoned her for training she was more than eager.
Marching paw by paw into deeper into their wooded territory, she kept her ears out for anything suspicious. Easy prey was easy prey - but unless she broke away from her mentor she doubted she would get a full run at something, especially since they were traveling downwind. It was a day like any other, and when they came close to the hollow her ears were greeted both by birdsong and Moosestar's inquiry.
"Hopefully not a day of tick duties and replacing bedding. Dovepaw has me covered. Hopefully its something more exciting."
She mewed evenly, testing back in responce as her brindled rump wiggled before taking the plunge, planting herself evenly with only a small toddle as her tiny paws sunk into the sand.

Moosestar snatched a grin at Brindlepaw's mention of elder duties. He stretched himself long, his lanky body stretching to the point he looked more like a weasel than a cat before he settled back into a fully standing position.
"Well, it is apart of being an apprentice, after all."
The early work of an apprentice was actually what the tom appreciated most about early training. Whether they believed it or not, it built an important skill; patience. Patience, and humility. So many kits ran into apprenticehood raring to go, ready for the battle moves and catching hot prey in their paws.
Except, no; that was not a warrior's life. A warrior lived for sacrifice, all so that the clan as a whole could survive.
"Well, I'm glad I have your enthusiasm. Unfortunately for you, we will need to start off slow."
He chuckled, moving to settle on his hind, holding his head straight in his seated position.
"We'll start with technique. Show me a good hunting crouch."

Brindlepaw found herself nodding knowingly. Of course thats what Moosestar would say. She did what was expected of her, and now she wanted to be rewarded with some actual training. It wasn't like she didn't care about the Elders, but this was a time for her to be learning on how to best serve her clan, and that was through providing. She wanted to catch fresh prey for them, not nearly hack from the pungent scent of mouse bile.
There wasn't much to say that wouldn't have just been sass, so Brindlepaw was silent, merely chuffing lightly at the mention of his enthusiasm. She was eager to please, and so when he asked her for a hunters crouch, her head bobbed with approval. Yes, a hunting crouch - she had practiced that before, and now was the time to shine.
Brindlepaw's body dipped low, tickling the soft ground with her belly fur. Her legs bent, keeping herself just barely above the ground - and while it could have passed for a suitable crouch, she was betrayed by the tip of her tail, which wiggled enthusiastically.
"Hows that? prey won't ever see me coming before its too late!"

The training had stretched into the evening, with the tom and she practicing both a hunting crouch, as well as the beginning stances of a hunting leap. It had gone well, though there were a few times the tom needed to slow the she down.
Quite a rambunctious one she is, after all!
