Fallkit had gotten enough of the nursery. Brightmaple's new kits were mewling and toddling around so much now that his tail was being stepped on daily. After a particularly harsh squeak that woke him from a deep nap, he'd decided to get some fresh air. Where was a kit to go, though? He'd had enough of moss-ball games. Hmm...the elders were usually keen to entertain kits. Perhaps Barleyswipe had a story to tell. He let his little paws carry him over to the elder's den, not a far cry from the nursery.

"Hello?" he called as he poked his head in through the entrance. Almost immediately, without thinking, he found himself pawing at the spongy soft moss carpeting.

Life isn't about what you lose, but what you fight to keep.

.。.:* ☆:**:. .。.:* ☆:**:.

Sunbear was lounging in the nest she had claimed in the elder's den, not like she had done much today, it isn't like she is able to formally patrol anymore, as much as she's like that idea. But now, she is only here to wallow in the silence of the elder's den, which wasn't much to complain about if she was being honest with herself. It was a great deal easier than her life before retirement.

Though, the patting of tiny paws at the entrance to the elder's den caused Sunbear's ears to twitch in acknowledgement, the massive she-cat had heard of the new litter in the clan, who hadn't at this stage, they'd be wabbling around at this stage, but not this far out of the nursery, so it must be the only other kit in the nursery exploring the camp, or perhaps getting away from the redundant squeaking. Sunbear wouldn't blame him if that was the reason.

The dozing she-cat gave her nose a twitch to prove she was awake then opened her hazel green eyes, turning her gaze towards the young cats, her expressions as blank as always. She wondered if she frightened some kits, she hoped she didn't but if she did, that would just be how it was. Without moving, well, aside from a flick over her tail, she greeted Fallkit. "Hello Fallkit, getting out for some fresh air are you?"

Fallkit blinked at the bundle of dark fur across the den. Still subconsciously kneading at the moss, he tilted his head, pale eyes wide with curiosity. "Hello," he said again. "Yeah. The den is kind of noisy now. Can I hang out here? Just for a little bit." He didn't know how much he could say about the kits in front of the she-cat. Some cats thought it was rude to complain so much, but he wasn't entirely sure about Sunbear--he hadn't gotten a lot of time to know her just yet. But she was an elder, wasn't she? So that probably meant she was nice. These clan elders were usually nice. He wondered what sort of games she knew.

The nursery? Noisy? No kidding, especially at a time like this when the new kittens are so young, Sunbear was surprised that Fallkit has kept so calm until now, or perhaps he hadn't been keeping his calm. She wouldn't be surprised if he made an escape to get away from the pair of fuzzballs for a while. "Noisy you say, the new kits too much for you at the moment?" she asked, her voice rather deep and raspy, almost coarse but still quite easily readable, if she was showing much emotion that is

Sunbear's hazel eyes glanced over towards the young kitten as he requested he stay in the elders den for a while, Sunbear couldn't really see why not, surely Emberback and Barleyswipe had no problem with Fallkit finding comfort in the peace and quiet of the elders' sanctuary. Perhaps he'd be interested in a story or two. Or just casual conversation, but Sunbear doubted that a kit would be able to pay attention for long enough to hold a conversation that didn't involve a story or interesting tale.

"I have no reason to say no" Sunbear added, giving her paws a quick wash with her tongue, flicking one of her torn ears before laying her head comfortably between them, her hind paws sprawled to her side and her forepaws placed in front of her, keeping her head safe from any discomfort of the ground, not like she hasn't experienced worse than an uncomfortable bit of bedding.

BAYFLOWER 🌊 THEY/HIM 🌼 WARRIOR

Bayflower padded out of the warriors’ den after a short nap, the black feline being able to hear the mewls of Heatherkit and Oatkit from over here. Should they visit them? It’d be nice but the feline was sure that Brightmaple would want some alone time to nurse the kits so probably not. What else could they do then? Maybe they could do some chores around camp? They wouldn’t mind. It sounded enjoyable and therapeutic. Maybe the elders would want some prey?

That was when Bayflower spotted little Fallkit waddling over to the elders’ den. How cute. The little one was probably going to ask for some stories. It sounded fun. Sure, Bayflower wasn’t a kit anymore but who didn’t like a cool story of the clans of the past? Bayflower thought back to the time when they were an older apprentice. One day their mother had come in and told them to get out of the elders’ den because she thought they were too old for stories. Geez they had never seen anybody else’s mother so attached to their kits when they were out of the nursery so why had their’s been like that?

The black feline sighed, shaking their head to snap themselves out of their self-pity. It’s fine. They wouldn’t see their mother for at least another 20 moons, probably much longer. Looking back at the elders’ den, they spotted Sunbear before deciding to pad over.

They weren’t in a rush so they saw no reason to bolt over to the elders’ den or anything like that, instead observing what they could see as they padded over there. They noticed the way Sunbear’s ears twitched in acknowledgement at the kit’s arrival before her nose twitched and she opened her eyes. Bayflower had always thought that Sunbear was a nice name. It sounded so warm and comforting, like a loving mother giving their litter of kits a big hug.

As Bayflower continued to near the elders’ den, they picked up on Sunbear speaking. "Hello Fallkit, getting out for some fresh air are you?" was what they heard. How sweet Fallkit was. Bayflower remembered back to the previous moon when they had played moss ball with the little guy. They didn’t imagine Heatherkit and Oatkit to be enjoyable opponents to play against simply because they were so fragile, one hit of a mossball possibly upsetting the little ones.

Bayflower eventually arrived at Fallkit’s side, literally close enough to the little tom to see his paws subconsciously kneading at the moss, his pale eyes wide with curiosity as he looked at Sunbear made their heart melt. Kits were so so so so so so so so so so so so so so cute! “Can I hang out here too?” Bayflower asked in a purr, hoping that they didn’t startle Fallkit. “I could use some stories too if that’s what we’re doing.”

Fallkit blinked as Bayflower suddenly appeared beside him. "Yeah," he answered simply, figuring that Sunbear would probably say it was okay, too.

Fallkit wandered further into the den at the elder's words, mostly enjoying the feeling of all the moss around his paws. I wonder why Brightmaple doesn't like her, he thought. She seems...okay. He couldn't help but stare at the scars across the elder's face. Those were odd. Interesting. He wondered if he'd ever have scars like that. How does a cat even get scars like that? He looked down at the moss getting caught in his claws. "I dunno if we're doing stories," he mewed with another glance at Sunbear. "I just got here. Heatherkit woke me up blabbing about the camp, but they're not allowed to go outside very much yet. So I did, instead." He gave a definitive nod, quite proud of himself for that fact.

When another warrior approached, Sunbear hid her irritation, there goes a peaceful nap, she thought to herself. But it wasn't like she had much control over weather cats decided to visit the elders' den, and it always seemed to be for a non-malicious reason, so she simply embraced the visit for what it was. "Bayflower" She greeted with a nod, placing her tail somewhat limply over her hind paws.

Sunbear gave close attention to the kitten staring at her facial scars, the ones that were arguably more noticeable than the rest as the fur was not as long there. "They're old scars" She explained rather bluntly, but that wasn't out of the ordinary, she was always a rather blunt, to-the-point cat, though probably less so when she was a kit, but that was so very long ago.

"They'll be outside by the next moon I'm sure, They better not be squeezing in here all the time to squeak to Barleyswipe though, wouldn't want to step on them" She added, her chin still placed comfortably on her paws as she gazed up at Bayflower "Stories you say, none of mine are very entertaining" she added to the warrior, surely they would be suggesting a story for Fallkit's sake, but it wasn't for her to judge if he wasn't, she didn't have much room to judge any cats' decisions given that she was once of ShadowClan and left them to be a WindClan warrior

BAYFLOWER 🌊 THEY/HIM 🌼 WARRIOR

Bayflower couldn’t help but chuckle briefly at Sunbear’s comment of the kits being noisy. They remembered back to when they were a kit. Stars above them had been the most annoying little spoiled brat in the nursery, always taking all the attention from their littermate. Thinking about it actually made them feel bad for their parents. How did anybody deal with Baykit or Baypaw? They would never know. “Well you know how kits can be.” Bayflower commented with a smile.

The feline looked down at Fallkit again for a few heartbeats before looking up again. They weren’t surprised that the young tom decided to come here for some peace and quiet. It was comfortable and quiet. Fallkit wouldn’t be allowed in the leader’s or medicine cats’ den while the warriors’ den was crowded and the apprentices’ den could be noisy. Well, lonely was probably a better word considering their current lack of apprentices; plus Brightpaw was probably out training or something.

The warrior was happy to hear Sunbear accept Fallkit’s company but at the same time, they weren’t surprised. Sure Sunbear wasn’t known to be the most cheery cat but what was she gonna say to the little tom who just wanted some peace and quiet? ‘No. Go away.’? Of course not. Bayflower wondered if they were welcomed though. They knew that sometimes cats were fond of young cats but not warriors so hopefully Bayflower wouldn’t be seen as an annoyance.

When Fallkit answered him, Bayflower didn’t budge, from where they were standing. They also assumed that Sunbear wouldn’t mind them sticking around but what if she did? If she did then Bayflower wouldn’t get upset. They’d simply dip their head in respect and leave. Bayflower looked around the elders’ den, smiling to themselves. It looked quite comfy. The den was a bit dark compared to the others but in a comforting way. It looked perfect for a good long sleep.

As Fallkit wandered further into the elders’ den, Bayflower looked up at the elder molly’s face, that was a lot of scars… Bayflower couldn’t imagine how painful it was when she first got them. The only noticeable scar they had was on their front left paw though they had small, thin ones here and there. Bayflower looked down at Fallkit as he spoke, nodding to his words. “Making Heatherkit jealous are we now?” Bayflower joked, their words dripping with sarcasm.

“Sunbear.” Bayflower responded, dipping their head with respect. Bayflower felt a bit of tension in the atmosphere. Should they leave? Maybe the den was crowded with another adult cat? Bayflower didn’t think so but if they were a bother they wouldn’t stick around. “How are you?” the black feline questioned. “Well, I hope? If you want I’m more than happy to grab some prey or wet moss for you.” the warrior offered, hoping that she wouldn’t think that he thought she was incapable.

Bayflower looked up at Sunbear’s scars once more. When Bayflower had been born, Sunbear had already been 35 moons, making the molly twice their age. So when they were born, she already had a few scars. Bayflower had some memories of what she looked like before she moved to the elders’ den but nothing more than a glance and a nod of acknowledgement here and there. So Bayflower didn’t actually have any idea when or how she got each scar.

Bayflower imagined the two little ones running around camp playing games as Sunbear spoke. “I’m sure Barleyswipe would be more than happy to lead the kits somewhere outside the den to ‘squeak’ when they’re of age to be running around.” they hummed as they sat down in a comfortable loaf position about a tail-length away from Sunbear. “Well it doesn’t have to be the most entertaining story in all the clans.” they responded. “I’m sure Fallkit is happy listen regardless.”

Fallkit really had no idea what he could expect from Sunbear. She wasn't quite the entertainer that he'd come to know other elders as, and her stories could be ones that very well bore him to sleep. But he supposed he was willing to take a chance...the only real alternative was to go back to the nursery and try to teach the kits some games again, which hadn't worked out so far.

He kneaded some of the moss into a comfy little pillow for himself, circling a few times before settling himself down. He tilted his head at Sunbear expectantly.

Like the sun, I may burn fiercely, but it's my fire that warms those I hold dear.

Sunbear soon noticed that Bayflower had followed Fallkit toward the elders' den, peering in through the entrance like a cautious, unsteady kitten. Sunbear gave a brisk nod for the two to enter and parted her jaws into a wide yawn. "You don't have to ask to come in you know, if you're a warrior with a reason it doesn't bother me what you do" Sunbear meowed to Bayflower, despite them not really asking to walk into the den, but their body language told her enough.

Sunbear then flicked her ears, Bayflower asking if they could grab her something she was more than capable of getting for herself. "I may be aging Bayflower but I'm not dependent" She meowed, her nose scrunching up in a small ounce of disdain. "But I've been as well as I can be, relaxed" She responded to the feline's first question, flicking her tail dismissively of the idea of telling a story. Despite hoe expectant Fallkit seemed for one.

"How about this, you two can ask me questions instead, that why I don't have to bother with any long winded tale" She meowed with a short huff as she finally lifted her head, the light casting a fiery glow over her dark red coat. "That way Fallkit gets time out of the nursery and Bayflower gets some form of entertainment from this scrap of fur" She meowed, her eyes portraying some form of joking playfulness "One at a time though, lets not overwhelm old Sunbear"

“I know, you’re not dependent, Sunbear.” Bayflower sighed, their fear coming true. “I’m glad you’ve been well though. It must be comfortable moving to the elders’ den.” When Sunbear brought up the idea of taking turns asking questions, Bayflower thought that it was actually a pretty good idea. That way Bayflower could just know the things they wanted to know and Sunbear could spare them any useless details. Well, Bayflower wouldn’t have minded a story at all but they completely understood if Sunbear just wasn’t in the mood for telling one.

Fallkit tilted his head, trying to think of a good question. "Umm..." He found himself rolling onto his side, stretching out his legs as far as he could. Normally, he'd be outside, trying to find a game to play, but he was still tired. "What's your favorite part about being a warrior?" he asked. "Did you ever fight in battle?" He wondered if Bayflower had ever fought, either. Sunbear must have, but Bayflower still seemed kind of young. Still old, but not nearly as old as Sunbear.

━✦━✶━✺━☀️━✺━✶━✦━

Sunbear flicked her ear as Bayflower began to explain what she heard as an apology, the large she-cat gave a small yawn before wrapping her tail instinctively around Fallkit as he came closer and laid down beside her, she had cared for her own kits in the past, so it wasn't an unusual concept to have a kit snuggled up to her, and might as well keep him warm for the comfort of it. Sunbear then turned her gaze back to Bayflower, flicking an ear.

"I can't complain, it's a lot better than the warriors' den was" She responded, licking one of her paws and dragging it over her muzzle, cleaning the scar that ran clean across it, three claw marks, a mark of an attack, or perhaps a battle of some sort but it was much too far back for Bayflower to even hear of. Let along tiny Fallkit. Regardless, she faced Fallkit when he asked her his questions

"My favourite part of being a warrior was being able to have some freedom, I would still have duties by the elders didn't snap at me to change their bedding" Sunbear let out a airy chuckle, laying her paws in front of her, she had never really asked for any bedding change, and never really complained about bedding unless an apprentice asked to change her bedding after rainfall. It wasn't much of an issue at all to Sunbear weather she slept on clean moss or if she slept on a jagged rock.

It was then that Fallkit asked if she had been in any battles, causing Sunbear to let out a short sigh "Of course I have. I the more visible scars are from attacks and battles" Sunbear replied, giving her paws another few short licks "I'd avoid that at all costs, imagine how much better I'd look without all these nasty cuts" she added, flicking her ear dismissively "any more questions, Fallkit? Bayflower?"

Bayflower watched Fallkit think of a good question, all of a sudden feeling like they were forgetting something. No. It was probably nothing. Once the little tom asked his questions, Bayflower’s eyes moved over to look at Sunbear, awaiting her reply. Bayflower understood why the elders’ den would be considered more comfortable than the warriors’ den which was much more crowded and definitely much less peaceful. As Bayflower listened, they couldn’t help but nod in agreement. The freedom was definitely nice compared to being an apprentice. Bayflower could pretty much do anything they wanted within the warrior code as long as they did their patrols and other duties each day. That was when Bayflower remembered what they were meant to do. They had a patrol soon. “Ah. Sorry Fallkit, Sunbear. I have a patrol soon. But I’ll definitely visit the elders’ den again soon!” the black feline replied, standing up and stretching they offered the other two cats a smile before padding away.
