The cold of leafbare seemed far from his mind as Kosmo padded down the narrow, cracked streets of Whitehart, but the sunshine filtering through the bare branches overhead was enough to make the day feel pleasant. He moved at a leisurely pace, enjoying the quiet and the crisp pleasantness of the day. High above him, his raven companion soared, her black feathers glinting in the pale sunlight as she circled gracefully before dipping down to guide him along through the trees.

It had been some time since he last ventured into Whitehart, but the neighborhood’s familiar scent lingered in the air - stone, dust, and the faint tang of loamy earth and the grey path. His mismatched eyes drifted between the shadowy alleyways and the Two-Leg dens that lined the street, his ears flicking at the distant sounds of life: the occasional bark of a dog, the rustling of leaves, or the far off call of Two-Leg young.

The raven cawed above him, breaking his reverie, and Kosmo glanced up, watching as she banked toward the stones an old cemetery. She settled with a flutter of wingbeats, tilting her head in his direction before hopping down to inspect something on the ground. Her sharp beak pecked at the freshly deceased body of a chipmunk, its little form splayed lifeless on the path - probably a recent victim of a passing vehicle.

Kosmo smirked, shaking his head fondly at the sight. “You always have a way of finding the freshest snacks, don’t you?” He murmured not thinking that he wasn't even using his usual words, but rather the language of the corvid, his voice light with amusement. The raven looked up briefly, her beady eyes gleaming with satisfaction before she returned to her meal.

He slowed his pace as he approached the entrance to the cemetery, the peaceful silence of the day settling around him like a warm blanket. The sun cast a soft glow over the weathered headstones and the patches of stubborn green grass that had refused to surrender to the winter frost. For a moment, Kosmo simply stood there, savoring the tranquility.

It was days like these - where the world felt still and quiet, but alive in its own way - that reminded him how much he enjoyed wandering for the sake of wandering. To allow his paws to take him someplace new.

When Morgan had heard some being get hit on the road, they had wanted to investigate and tidy up whatever mess that might've made, but they'd been in the middle of accompanying their guardian around the grounds and indulging their desire to adorn Morgan in yet another raiment. This time, it was a velvety, dark blue hooded cloak with shiny silver swirls along its length that reminded Morgan of thin streams of smoke. They weren't sure if the crescent-shaped clasp was meant to bring to mind the moon or a claw.

Regardless, Morgan could not have run off to look at the freshly deceased without attracting far too much of their human's attention. Fortunately, their keeper had finally returned to their fellows inside. Now the scion had the chance to head back over and, cloak billowing behind them, hop up onto the wall surrounding the cemetery in order to survey the scene, but as they did so, it seemed they'd missed the opportunity to retrieve the body...

"Ah, you've already begun," they chirruped to the raven already attending the victim. "I'll leave you to it, but I'd be happy to move it somewhere quieter for you." Not that a grown raven should need help with a chipmunk, but Morgan was conscious of courtesy, and on that subject...

"Welcome and well-met," Morgan meowed brightly, returning to the language of cats to greet the large feline who'd neared the entrance. "Though it's not quite as fresh as that, there is food here too if you seek it."

Kosmo’s mismatched eyes flicked upward at the sound of a voice, his attention pulled from the tranquility of the cemetery’s entrance to the feline figure perched atop the wall. His raven companion paused mid-peck, tilting her head curiously at the new arrival but didn’t stray from her meal.

Kosmo’s lips twitched into a half-smile as he regarded Morgan, the bright greeting and offer catching him slightly off guard. His ears flicked as he considered the cat’s words, the smooth cadence of Morgan’s voice adding to the already surreal nature of the moment.

“Well-met, indeed!” Kosmo replied, his voice held the usual politeness when it came to strangers - however, this strange cat illicited a greater reaction. “Though I’m not here for food, fresh or otherwise.”

His tail flicked lazily, his gaze taking in the swirls of silver along Morgan’s cloak with open curiosity. “Quite the ensemble you’ve got there.” His brow was raised, the playful undertone creeping into his voice as his smile widened ever so slightly. “A human must tend to you - What you wear, it's as if you wear another pelt. It's beautiful...” Or perhaps she was, but either way, there seemed stars in his eyes echoed from nights staring up for long hours.

The raven, finished with her meal, flapped her wings and perched herself on a low branch, watching the exchange from above with a keen eye. Kosmo glanced up at her briefly before turning his full attention back to Morgan. The peculiarities of this meeting were enough to stir something in him - an interest beyond the usual aloofness he carried.

“Are you always this eager to offer your help to scavengers and strangers alike?” With a half chuckle, he padded closer, pausing as he offered one more croon. "Well, my name is Kosmo... Who might you be?"

"Thank you," Morgan meowed graciously. "Yes, my human's very fond of these adornments and this one's very comfortable. The thicker ones are perfect for cold days as well."

Were they always so eager? Did they seem that eager? Morgan's tail-tip curved beneath the cloak as they considered his question and their answer.

"This is a place of peace and rest," they explained, "open to strangers, scavengers, familiars, and so on. As one of its keepers, I wouldn't turn someone away simply for not being known to me."

He seemed very unlike Ahryndae so far, Morgan thought. They wondered if he'd ever met her. Neither smelled much like housecats either. They smelled like... outside. That was perfectly fine, but Morgan wondered where they resided.

"Nice to meet you, Kosmo—may it stay so. I'm called Morgan." Their forepaws slid down the wall as they lowered themself and prepared to drop down, then the cloak dragged in the air as they descended, which Morgan enjoyed and only got annoyed by when they wanted to be at their fastest.

"Your name is fantastic too," Morgan went on, eyes alight with free-flowing interest. "By any chance, are you named for the cosmos itself?"
