Frost-kissed fur hides a fiery spirit

Rimekit crouched low near the thorn tunnel, her mismatched eyes darting this way and that. The camp was busy and maybe no one was paying her any attention.
Her tail twitched restlessly, a bundle of energy she couldn’t burn off by batting moss balls or chasing bugs anymore. She was four moons old now. Four moons! Practically grown. Practically apprentice age. She didn’t belong cooped up in the nursery like some mewling kit who couldn’t keep their paws under them.
"Bet the forest is way better than camp." She nodded to herself, pressing her belly to the ground as she wriggled forward. She shot a quick look over her shoulder and slipped a paw into the shadows of the thorn tunnel, a sly grin curling across her muzzle as she continued, before breaking free into the open sky.
Her ears twitched at bird cries above her, and she did her best to stalk the sound over to a particular tree in her best hunter's crouch!

Wrentalon admitted, keeping guard at the camp entrance was not the worst thing he could be doing at the moment. There were only so many tasks he could do inside the camp without going nuts, and only so many he could do outside that wouldn't eventually fill him with some sort of anger. He still remembered the cats he'd found alongside his mother's body, and he knew their borders weren't as secure as he'd like them to be.
But at least at this moment, he could keep the camp safe. Better yet, he knew who was leaving and coming back. If anyone was gone too long, he might be able to sound an alarm before they found another cat dead.
...Or, he could watch as a young kit decided to sneak out. Wrentalon didn't spot her immediately, but Rimekit's pale pelt stood out somewhat among the dark greenery of the forest. He couldn't stray too far from his post, but he still quietly padded over to the kit. "Are you getting some hunting practice in?" he asked.

Rimekit’s ears flicked at the voice, but she didn’t lift her head from her crouch. Her eyes were glued to the branches above, pupils round as she tracked the flicker of wings. The warrior’s paws were heavy compared to the tiny scrabble of talons. How could she possibly look away now?
"Mmhm." She hummed, her whiskers twitching with concentration. "Mama's been teachin' me chipmunk smells, and squirrel smells... And birds smells." Her tail tip quivered as though to underline her point, though she never glanced his way.
"But it’s their sounds I like most." She whispered, half to him, half to herself, mismatched eyes shining. "They’re all different, if you listen." Her body wriggled closer to the base of the tree, belly brushing the grass. "I like their songs...but I like how they taste too."
Only then did she risk the briefest sideways glance toward Wrentalon, her grin sharp and eager, before snapping her gaze back to the canopy. "You like eatin' birds?"
