While Rimekit stood in the centre of the den, young Finchkit was curled up in a very light sleep. The tom, despite being young, ready to jump to the rescue if someone were in trouble. Was the chance of that unlikely? Probably. But it was day time and wouldn't hurt to sleep lightly for now. 

However, what the ginger-coloured tom did not expect, was for his younger cousin to start fighting moss-balls of all things. The young tom sat up, blinking once before looking over at Rimekit as she spoke up. 

Finchkit, watched her in amusement as she leaped into the air and landed with an exaggerated thud. Similarly to how he didn't understand his sister's joy in sorting plants, he didn't quite understand the fun in pretending that moss-balls were foxes. But each to their own. 

"What'd those moss-balls do to you?"

Rimekit froze mid-pounce, her paws poised above the defeated moss ball. Her mismatched eyes flicked toward Finchkit, and her fur fluffed up even more, this time out of embarrassment rather than her earlier dramatic bravado.

"They’re foxes.” She corrected, her voice high and full of conviction. She lowered her paws slowly and gave the moss ball a sharp prod, as if to emphasize her point. "And not just any foxes - big, mean ones. They were tryin’ to sneak into camp, so I'm stoppin' them."

Curiosity got the better of her, and she tilted her head at him, her ears twitching forward. "What’re you doin’ just sittin’ there?" Her tone slightly accusatory."You hafta protect the clan too."Before giving the green, round fox a fierce bap as it rolled towards Finchkit.

"Go. I'll be here."

Finchkit remained amused as Rimekit froze mid-pounce, a small smile escaping him as her fur fluffed up from embarrassment. "If those are foxes they're the most not-scary foxes I've ever seen." The tom responded after the molly's 'correction'. 

"Why do you ask? Got a problem with me 'just sitting here?' he hummed. "Kits like me like to save their energy for more meaningful things besides wacking moss."

"Don't you think it'd be more fun if I pretend to be a fox?" the red tabby suggested as he smacked the moss ball back over to Rimekit. "From Sunstrike's stories, if I remember correctly, I'm the same colour as one. So maybe you'll find the experience more... Immersive." The kit was a little surprised at his own words. Normally quiet and reserved, Finchkit was now talking a lot more than usual. But maybe it was just because he was a kit or maybe it was because he found kin such as Rimekit easy to talk to.

Rimekit’s mismatched eyes widened at Finchkit’s suggestion. "Oh, yes!" She squeaked, bouncing on her paws as if she couldn’t contain her excitement. "You’re right - foxes are red, and you're red too." She crouched down low again, her hindquarters wiggling as she prepared herself for this new challenge.

"Alright..." Her voice was brimming with dramatic seriousness. “You better watch out, ‘cause I won't go easy on you!" Sure, Finchkit was about a moon older than her, but that wouldn't stop her.

With a squeaky growl, she launched herself at him, her oversized paws swiping through the air as she aimed for his flank. Her growl was a mix of determination and playful giggles. "Don’t forget to snarl real scary, okay? Foxes are supposed to be scary!"

"Go. I'll be here."

As Rimekit crouched down again, wiggling her hindquarters, Finchkit got into position too, standing tall and narrowing his eyes. "I bet that I'll win even if you go easy on me." The tom taunted a few heartbeats before she launched herself at him. The red tabby had considered putting his all into this play fight as well but he was worried about hurting her so, instead, he pretended to be scared. "Oh no! It's Rimestorm! The most fierce warrior in all of ThunderClan!" Finchkit yelped. "Please have mercy!" the hazel-eyed tom meowed, dashing away from Rimkit and towards Wildcry.

Rimekit puffed up with pride at Finchkit’s dramatic yelp, her ears twitching with delight. With a growl, she chased after him with a fierce expression that was ever so adorable - less intimidating for a kit so young.

Her stubby legs carried her quickly after Finchkit, though her steps were slightly uncoordinated, her kit-sized paws making little thuds on the nursery floor. "You - can't escape!" She declared, leaping at his tail with an enthusiastic squeal, even if she didn't snag it.

When she landed just short of her mark, she giggled and batted playfully at the air, her mismatched eyes glinting with excitement. "C’mon, Finchkit - aren’t you gonna fight back? Or are you a scaredy-fox?" It wouldn't be as fun!

"Go. I'll be here."

"Can't escape? We'll see about that!" the kit growled playfully, moving his tail as far away from her as he could. "Scaredy-fox you say? You dare accuse me of such weakness?" the red tom bellowed before pouncing in the molly's direction and tumbling into her.

Rimekit let out a squeaky yelp as Finchkit tumbled into her, the force of his pounce sending her sprawling backward. For a moment, she blinked up at him in surprise, her mismatched eyes wide. Then, with a burst of giggles, she wriggled beneath him, her tiny paws flailing in an exaggerated attempt to shove him off. If anything, this only added more fuel to the fire.

"You dare challenge Rimestorm?" Her playful tone laced with mock indignation. "This means war!"

With a burst of determination, she dipped underneath his belly and aimed a few kitten punches to his gut. "Gotcha now, fox!"

"Go. I'll be here."

Finchkit grinned, a joyous giggle escaping the tom for the first time in his life. Well, not like he has a long one anyways. As Rimekit wiggled under him the tom tried to stay firm, doing his best to not allow her to push him off or escape. "War, you say? You have guts to declare war on me Rimest-ah!" Before the tom could have finished his sentence, the she-kit kicked him a little too hard and in retaliation, the kit smacked the molly's face, hissing playfully.

Rimekit blinked in surprise as Finchkit’s paw bopped her on the nose. She froze for a heartbeat before letting out an exaggerated gasp, her mismatched eyes going wide.

"Did you just smack me?" She squealed, her voice pitched high with playful indignation. With a dramatic battle cry, she launched herself upward, aiming to drape herself over Finchkit’s belly like a determined burr. Her tiny claws were sheathed as she playfully grappled with him.

"I'mma ThunderClan warrior! Foxes always surrender!"

"Go. I'll be here."

When Rimekit questioned Finchkit about him smacking her, a satisfied smirk escaped the tom. However, it was quickly wiped off the moment Rimekit launched herself upward, aiming to drape herself over the tom's belly. When the molly's tiny claws were sheathed as she playfully grappled with him, Finchkit's first reaction was to try to shake her off and run away.

Rimekit squeaked as Finchkit wriggled out of her grasp, her mismatched eyes narrowing in determination. "Heeeey!" She yowled as her little legs scrambled to chase after him.

She darted after him with all the speed her kit sized body could muster, her stubby tail sticking straight up. "Stop runnin' so fast - unless you're runnin' out of ThunderClan territory - then I'll allow it!" Her voice rang with dramatic conviction as she tried to keep up. Leaping forward, she swiped a paw at his tail, just barely missing and skid slightly on her paws.
