The sun was warm on Emberdust’s back, its rays cutting through the chill of leaf-bare in a way that felt rare and comforting. The marsh underpaw was still damp, but today’s pleasant weather had already started to dry out patches of grass, making it the perfect day to laze about without worrying too much about mud.
Stretching luxuriously, Emberdust rolled onto her side, letting the sunlight soak into her russet pointed fur. She closed her eyes for a moment, simply enjoying the quiet warmth. But then, an idea popped into her mind, and a mischievous glint sparkled behind her orange eyes.
Pushing herself up onto her paws, Emberdust trotted off back towards the den, her tail held high in anticipation. Specklenose would love this! And if he wasn’t already enjoying the sunshine, she’d just have to drag him out to do so.
“Specklenose! Come with me to the marsh!” Her voice was a note of bright and eager. “The sun’s out, and it’s warm enough for some proper sunbathing. We’ll have the perfect spot to ourselves!”
Her eyes gleamed with excitement as she tilted her head toward the camp’s exit, already half-turned to lead the way. "It’s not every day leaf-bare offers a treat like this. What do you say?"

Snoozing with half their body outside their nest, Specklenose was surprised to be awoken by Emberdust's voice ringing through his ears. Blinking sleep from their eyes, Specklenose surprisingly wasn't that displeased about being waken up. Probably because it was Emberdust, but either way they were in a good mood. Flopping out of their nest, Specklenose chirped a greeting, reaching out their front paws before getting up with a shake.
'Dearest Emberdust can't even spend a day without me! But fine.. I admit the weather is good.' He talked, not even realizing that Emberdust was already on the move. She was still close, but Specklenose scrambled after her, legs still numb from napping. He picked up his pace, wanting to overtake Emberdust before she reached the entrance. If they did so, they didn't know because instead of running out the exit, they dived, tumbling over their own body before standing upright in a cloud of dust. Specklenose could think of a few spots where they might get good sun, but wasn't sure if Emberdust had a particular spot in mind, so they waited for her to take the lead, running a paw over their tufted ear.

Emberdust purred with amusement as she watched Specklenose scramble to his paws, the sight of him tumbling over himself bringing a gleam of mischief to her eyes. "Well, of course I can’t spend a day without you!" Teasing the tom playfully while flicking her stump of a tail. "Who else is going to trip over themselves trying to keep up with me?" It was all good fun - she'd know if Specklenose was really hurt, which was why she didn't feel ashamed nudging him while he was down.
She trotted forward, her pace light and easy as she led the way towards the camp entrance. The air outside felt fresh and pleasant, the bright sunshine cutting through the lingering cold of leaf-bare. Emberdust glanced over her shoulder at Specklenose. “I’ve got the perfect spot in mind!” She said, her voice brimming with excitement. “There’s a nice little patch where the grass has dried out. We can stretch out in the sun all afternoon without any mud"
Picking up her pace a bit, Emberdust bounded ahead, the thought of a peaceful day in the warmth filling her with energy. “C’mon, I bet I can get there before you!” Her laughter rang in the air as she dashed off toward their sunny spot in the marsh with Specklenose in tow.
