Coldgaze slowly made his way up the roots of the Twinwillows, seating himself in his usual spot. He tried to keep his face serene and stoic, but it was hard.
The root was absolutely freezing!
He resisted the urge to life his paws like a whiny apprentice as he addressed the clan. "Warriors! Apprentices! To me." Waiting a moment until most eyes were on him, he continued.
"Briarfang, you will take Mintwhisker. The two of you, and Hailpaw will move along the river, and check the condition of the banks and ice. I don't want any cat fishing if the river is only semi-frozen. Too much of a risk." He had only heard of cats falling in and getting trapped in the ice and he hoped to avoid it this year as well.
"Goosesong, you will take Ambersmudge, Stoneclaw and Stormpaw and investigate this 'barn' you spoke of. I would like to know if this is an actual viable hunting ground of not. Remember - this is reconnaissance. If you encounter anyone report back immediately." If Goosesong was right, they might have a way to keep the clan fed throughout the winter. That was - so long as no one else was there.
"Thornstrike, take Alderfly, and Mistypaw to the North fields and go hunting. Again, check all the prey before bringing it back. No point on bringing poison into camp. Cottonbright, you do the same with Nettlesky and Sturgeonpaw out on the Lower East banks."
And that left...
"I will take Merrypaw and Bloomfire to the tree line. We will also be hunting, as well as checking the borders to the west of us." That seemed to be everything. Now to get off this stupid root!

Merrypaw listened intently as Coldgaze gave out the assignments, her eyes bright with attention. Each task sounded important, and she was eager to contribute to the clan, even if the thought of dealing with Bloomfire made her belly twist just a little. Still, she wouldn’t let that dampen her mood. This was another chance to learn from Coldgaze, and she was determined to prove herself useful.
When Coldgaze finally announced their patrol, she straightened, her tail giving a small, eager flick. The tree line and the borders - they were places for her to explore and another opportunity to test her hunting skills.
“I’m ready, Coldgaze.” She mewed softly but confidently, her gaze steady on him. She ignored the subtle discomfort she felt at the idea of working with Bloomfire, reminding herself that the task came first. Whatever sourness the older warrior brought, she could handle it.
She gave a respectful dip of her head toward Bloomfire, and turned her attention back to Coldgaze ready to go.

'Huh, barn? never have I ever seen or heard about that' said in Ambersmudge's mind. She is sitting closely with everyone that is at the Twinwillows, steadying her attention in details Coldgaze is speaking out the assignments. The warrior did take a quick glance at the members in her group, acknowledging them with a smile and an appreciative nod. Ambersmudge is looking forward to this assignment she is assigned to and what will lie within the unfamiliar area. 'Even if there will be cold winds present outside of camp, that won't stop me from going on this crucial patrol!' as she thinks once more, with an expression of determination.

Getting off the roots was a welcome thing, and he casually shook his back leg to chase off any remainder of the chill from his limbs. Turning his gaze to his apprentice, he looked her up and down.
"Are you?" He wasn't loud, nor did he mean the question to come as an accusation. But there was something in Merrypaw's voice that made it feel like she wasn't as focused or excited as she usually was about this. "Nettleplume could use extra paws around camp." His musings weren't meant as a incentive for Merrypaw to want to continue but as an alternate task for her to do if she wasn't feeling up to the walk. (But they could certainly be taken that way.)
She was still - by clan standards - a very young apprentice, or a very old kit. Perhaps the apprentices needed more time around camp?
