Quailfeather

Almost an identical copy of his mother, Quailfeather has a long, spotted chocolatey brown coat that may be described as plush and warm to the touch. While most of his fur is covered with chocolate speckles, his paws are white, albeit sometimes a little mucky from their territory, but he is always sure to keep them clean before any dirt or mud builds up on the pristine white.

His build is on the rounder side, as well as him being rather stout, but due to his grandmother’s Maine coon heritage, he is slightly larger than average. Not so big to be considered a large warrior, but big enough that it could be noticed.

His eyes are a deep, earthy shade of sage green, they are round and often having a soft, kinder shape to them, while his mother’s were a most sharp and determined amber.

Overall he bares a soft, plush-like appearance that his mother and his aunt revered, as, to them, it made him look kind and approachable.

Quailfeather could be addressed as kind-hearted and loyal to those who know him well. He often willing to put others before himself for the sake of their own comfort, often holding the belief that if his Clanmates were happy, he is happy. And he typically takes that belief to heart, finding joy in his Clanmates’ happiness even if he would have had a bad day himself.

Beneath the kind exterior there is a small pool of self doubt that occasionally bubbles up when the worst comes to worst. At the sign of failure in himself, he is one to believe that it would be his own fault until it is proven that it isn’t. However his heart is full and open, as he would often try his hardest to comfort his Clanmates if they needed it, trying to be a pillar in their comfort, a sturdy presence that won’t leave when the times get tough.

Quailfeather adores seeking quality time with other Clanmates, especially kits and apprentices. He tends to hang around the nursery or apprentice den when not on patrol or providing from his clan. He would like to think that he is quite good with kits, but every kit is different, so he usually does his best to figure out how to make the kit in question as comfortable and happy as possible when playing, which could make him well liked by the queens and kits alike as he of always happy to look after them if the queen needs a break.

Though he can be sympathetic and quiet, there are times where he can be stern and firm when needed, he thinks carefully about outcomes before he acts, and when he needs to take action, he will for the greater protection of his Clanmates and other cats that may need his help.

Kithood [0-5 Moons]

In the silence of night on the Moon of Cheetah’s Flight (2019) Mousewillow, an extroverted and loving queen, gave birth to a litter of two, one of those kits, a tom, she had named Quailkit, the other, a she-kit, she named Thrushkit. Quailkit was the quieter kit out of the two, but both kits were certainly mischievous in their own right. Trying their hardest to find ways out of camp for explore further into ShadowClan’s territory (of which was foiled by their older, more mature clanmates).

However, when Quailkit and Thrushkit were three moons, one of their expeditions were a success, while Mousewillow and most of the clan were asleep, Thrushkit led the charge out of camp and Quailkit followed to help his adventurous sister. However, the trip did not end as they expected…

When they were about a tail length away from camp, an elderly owl had taken notice of the small kits and assumed them as prey. However just as the Quailkit and Thrushkit noticed the owl swooping, claws flashed across the owl’s feathers. Quailkit, shaken from the encounter, noticed that Mousewillow had noticed they had been gone and had rushed out of camp to save them after hearing the owl’s calls.

Mousewillow’s claws were thankfully enough to draw the owl off, wounded and shaken. Once the kit had been returned to camp, they both realized why exactly the adults had warned them about leaving the camp alone and both Quailkit and Thrushkit promised to stay in the camp from then until their apprentice ceremony after being punished lightly for their disobedience, as they didn’t know any better.

Apprenticeship [6-11 Moons]

Three moons following the incident with the owl, Quailkit was made an apprentice with his sister, he was given to Eaglecry, his maternal aunt, to learn under. Quailpaw was close with his kin and appreciated that he would be being taught under close kin.

However, when it came time to leave the camp for his first day of training, Quailpaw was hesitant. All the thoughts and sights of that owl, talons extended, ready to claim both himself and his sister for its prey. However with a bit of coaxing from Eaglecry, he built up his courage and walked out with her, often sticking close to her, her large size bringing a soft comfort to him.

He did well in his training over the moons, albeit a little average. But on his 9th moon, while cleaning out the nests in the nursery, he encountered a hive of bees that have made themselves at home in the camp. The bees were aggressive and swarmed Quailpaw angrily, giving him multiple stings that made his body swell and left him in the medicine den for a few days while the nest was being dealt with.

by the time he was out of the medicine den, he shivered at the thought of the yellow and black insects that mercilessly attacked him that day and planned to stay as far away from them as possible. Though he’d hardly admit it, from that day, he would be scared by the sight of bees into his warrior moons.

Warriorhood [12 Moons – Current]

Quailfeather’s early warrior moons were steady and humble. He quickly made his place in the clan, always willing to help with small tasks around camp, whether repairing dens or keeping the elders company. Though shadows overhead still made his stomach twist with faint memories of the owl, he managed the fear with calm focus. He liked to think that his gentle nature drew other cats to him, especially apprentices and/or kits, who could find comfort in his patience and warm companionship

Despite this, Quailfeather often battled brief waves of self-doubt, believing any mistake marked him as a failure. Thankfully, his family, including Eaglecry and Thrushpaw, who had been named Thrushchirp, helped anchor him when those thoughts surfaced. Over time, he became a quiet source of strength for his family, offering words, steady company and a safe place to share worries.

However, tragedy struck when his sister, Thrushchirp was on a solo patrol and was ambushed by a small band of rogues she had no chance of winning against, as they had numbers and all Thrushchirp had was determination and four sets of claws. She was found barely breathing and died when infection from one of the deeper wounds spread to her heart.

Quailfeather was devastated by his sister’s death, and his mother passing away not very long after didn’t help him with his self esteem. He found solace in his aunt and some of his agemates in the clan, and slowly, he had begun to regain his confidence, although he would always have a glimmer of self-doubt deep in his chest when it comes to the worst of times.
