Not even the strongest warrior can save every cat

The tall tortie sat, resting from the day his bright copper eyes gazing as he groomed himself taking a moment to lift his head from his previous task to look over to the voice that had made itself known the cats that were present in the warriors hallow, he knew that voice... Lilyriver? What was she doing and what did she plan to tell him was something wrong did she hurt herself. The toms mind flooded on what she could want from him did he do something wrong?

The tall feline rose from where he had sat to follow the white, she-cat to the clearing it was mostly him that went to visit the elder not her, was she going to tell him  what she was doing leaving the camp, it would have to come up sooner or later with her eye she shouldn't have left or even at the least told some cat where she was going if it was him or some other cat.

His ears flicked taking a moment to stop and stare from a distance perhaps he was overthinking it, it was Lilyriver his mentor who had known him since he was a kit, it wouldn't be that crazy. Walking up to that feline he sat across from her his head slightly tilted looking for anything that would hint at what she wanted to chat about "Hello Lilyriver! Is something wrong?" he asked waiting for a response from the frosty cat slightly holding their breath

Lilyriver glanced over to Clamsneeze and held back a chuckle at his worried expression, the cocked a brow for a second and glancing into Clamsneeze's copper eyes. "Clamsneeze, you run right to thinking of the worst quite a lot don't you" She mused, giving her paw a few licks, revealing a slightly larger and lightly rounded belly "Nothing is wrong, that is a promise to you, Clamsneeze" she reassured her former apprentice with a light sigh, though it didn't seem to hold any negative indignation.

"I wanted to reveal some good news actually" The snow-white she-cat added as she placed her paws comfortably on the ground and wrapped her tail around them. She wondered if Clamsneeze would find a way to change her words into something to be concerned about, or if he would simply agree that it was good news and just wonder what the mysterious good news is before she told him. 

Lilyriver's icy blue eyes didn't falter on Clamsneeze as an idea flickered back and forth in her mind, she shrugged only slightly at her own idea and glanced down at her belly for a moment, flicking an ear in thought before glancing back up at Clamsneeze, would that have been enough of a hint to the tom or would she have to say it outright? Well, only one way to find out. "Do you think you would be able to guess what I'm about to tell you?"

Otterwhisker ducked out of the warren, giving her pelt a quick shake as the crisp air nipped at her damp nose. Leaf-bare always had a way of making the simplest ailments drag on, and she wasn’t about to let a runny nose turn into something worse. Nettleplume had given her something for it - he always did, even if he made a fuss about how often she came in for herbs.

Blinking, she stepped into the clearing, only to notice Lilyriver and Clamsneeze still sitting together. The way they were positioned leaning slightly toward one another made it clear this wasn’t just idle conversation. Otterwhisker hesitated briefly. Normally she wouldn’t bother with whatever discussion they were having, but something about the way Clamsneeze held himself made her ears twitch. Perhaps it was some inherent instinct...

She padded closer, her tail flicking idly behind her. "Hello, Clamsneeze. Lilyriver. How are you both?" She didn't want to assume that something could be wrong, but she felt as it was part of her responsibility now that she was retired, to keep track of her clanmates. At least if there was anything to mediate, she could make the attempt.

Hearing the Frosty cats comforting words he let out a breath happy to know nothing is wrong, he would hate to see anyone not feeling their greatest but if it wasn't bad news then what was the news? Was she free of a sickness, her white fur stopped thinning? No he could see it right now it looked the same. He looked around still slightly nervous the clan looked the same everyone seemed fine and relaxed so what was happening that was so exciting to the elder

The tortie tom sat there with his copper eyes glancing around looking for what could be the cause of his former mentor visiting him instead of the other way around. Returning his gaze to the long-haired she-cat he tried yet again to see what the news could be looking down the felines belly, it did seem his mentor needed to perhaps lay off the prey, perhaps that's why she left the clan when Goosesong seen her maybe she was trying to get a small bit of exercise. Looking up to meet the cats icy eyes he opened his muzzle to speak, no he couldn't tell her she was getting a bit… large, perhaps he would just let the she=cat tell him instead “Uhm no, I don't think I can” he meowed

His ears perked at the sound of another voice not to far, it was Otterwhisker thank goodness maybe she knew what Lilyriver news could be after all he couldn't guess everything, Clamsneeze cleared his throat to speak “Hello Otterwhisker I'm doing just fine, what about you Lilyriver?” he asked. It could give him a hint if it was a medical issue that the she=cat was talking about.

Lilyriver raised a brow at Clamsneeze's response and rolled her icy eyes "Well I wanted to tell you that I'm-" Lilyriver had paused her words when Otterwhisker had made an appearance in the clearing. Lilyriver hadn't really expected her to show up so soon but she was not one to have complaints for company, even if she had been so briefly interrupted by the company. After all it was never really a problem, and the cats of RiverClan essentially lived shoulder to shoulder anyway, even if they didn't have equal views, Lilyriver found it somewhat enlightening.

"I'm well Otterwhisker, I was just about to have a little chat with Clamsneeze, but I see no reason why you couldn't join it" She explained with a gentle flick her her tail, her silky tail wrapping around her body to draw emphasis to her slightly swollen belly. 

Lilyriver thought for a moment, what could the easiest way to tell this news to these cats, Otterwhisker had been the most recent out of the nursery, as her kits have become apprentices a few moons ago, surely she would have some recommendations on how she settled in, and what to do. "Otterwhisker, a question, if I may ask" she began, twitching the tip of her tail, making sure she was heard by Clamsneeze as well. "If you had any advice for an expecting queen, what advice would you give?" Lilyriver did not make an effort to hide the news, simply changed her words to emphesis any sort of surprise, but she wondered if her apprentice and Otterwhisker would catch on as quickly as she hoped.

Otterwhisker’s ears twitched, catching the subtle emphasis in Lilyriver’s words... Ah. So that was it. A slow grin pulled at her muzzle, and she let out a short hum.

"Advice for an expecting queen, huh?" She sat down as she flicked a glance toward Clamsneeze. His face was still a picture of concentration, as if he were piecing together a puzzle with missing pieces. Poor guy.

Otterwhisker decided to help him out. "Well, for starters, I’d say don’t try to overdo it...Listen to when you're body says its tired." She glanced at Clamsneeze again, wondering if realization had dawned on him yet, before adding with a teasing lilt. "And you’ll want to surround yourself with cats you trust - ones who’ll look out for you and your kits, especially once they start tumbling over each other like minnows in a puddle."

Her teal gaze rested on Lilyriver, warm but inquisitive. "So, I take it that means you’ve got some little ones on the way?"

Looking between the two felines he couldn't help but feel confused, why would Lilyriver need advice for unless...? No, his mentor had too many complications for her to risk having kits with her injures from all those moons ago, he would hate to think of what could happen to her if she did have kits there was so much that could happen to the kits and her. The tortie tom could only sit thinking of all of what could happen to Lilyriver he had completely shut out what the she-cats were speaking of.

his ears perked at the chocolate mink's words his eyes widening to snap his head to the frosty longhaired cat, could she really have kits? even with all the risks? the tom sat there with a slightly shocked face "You're having kits?" he questioned with a gulp. he didn't know how to fell about the idea of something potentially happening.

He took a deep breath, what was he thinking Lilyriver would be fine she was fine after her eye was… well, so why wouldn't she be fine he wasn't a medicine cat, so what did he know Nettleplume probably knows that she’ll be just fine why was he worrying Otterwhisker was alright carrying her kits and seemed as healthy as ever when she spoke with them.

Lilyriver kept her ears facing towards Otterwhisker, she had been in the elders' den with her for quite a few moons, ever since she had her injury at Sunningrocks, but she hadn't really paid much attention to the chocolate she-cat until now, and Lilyriver wondered if she should be doing so more often, after all, she was the one that would possibly be the most helpful to her at the moment, after all she had a litter most recently.

"I was hoping to do so anyway, even Nettleplume mentioned getting a lot of rest and prey, but he didn't seem to have any growing concerns" Lilyriver explained, knowing that her former apprentice would be having worries for her wellbeing, Nettleplume was a fine medicine cat and shouldn't be underestimated so Lilyriver trusted him, after all, what other choice did she have? "But yes, I'll be the next she-cat in the nursery" the white she-cat added, taking a sideward glance at Clamsneeze, her eyes blue eyes honing in on him.

Lilyriver knew that she'd be endangering herself in having kits, but it was her choice, and every queen faced the dangers of kitting, not just the older queens. "Our safety is never guaranteed Clamsneeze, queen or not, but we live on anyway, it is a duty of mine to provide for my clan, and if I cannot attend patrols anymore, I might as well provide for the clan in some other way. But this will be my first and last litter" she meowed, adding the last statement to hopefully give the tortie mink tom a peace of mind in regards to her wellbeing.

Otterwhisker’s gaze softened as she listened, the teasing glint in her eyes fading into something quieter, more understanding. Lilyriver’s words held a certainty that left little room for argument, but that didn’t mean Clamsneeze’s shocked face wasn’t valid.

She aimed to flick her tail gently against his flank, a grounding touch. "It’s alright to worry, Clamsneeze..." The she-cat tried to encourage. "That just means you care. But Lilyriver’s right - kits or no kits, none of us are guaranteed safety, and she’s not going into this blindly."

Her gaze returned to Lilyriver, thoughtful. "Nettleplume wouldn’t have given his approval if he thought the risks were too great. He may have a sharp tongue, but he knows what he’s doing. And you probably do too."

She let the words settle, then flicked her ears. "Have you told Boldstar yet? Or are we the first, besides Nettleplume?"
