For once, Emberdust wasn’t trailed by the tiny storm of squeaks and tumbling paws that had become her constant soundtrack since kitting.

Another had offered to give her some reprieve, and now she was free from the nursery. She stretched her legs, feeling the deep pull in her shoulders and the sting of sleep deprivation behind her eyes.
