The river shimmered beneath the midday sun, no longer iced over but flowing freely alive with promise. The shallows lapped quietly at the pebbled shore, warmed just enough by newleaf’s kindness. Cottonbright stood at the water’s edge, her white pelt catching the light like frost.
She glanced back at Sturgeonpaw, her expression calm but encouraging. "T-today we swim...You've watched, and practiced your paddling but this time it's the real deal..." She mewed softly, the faintest flicker of amusement in her lime green eyes. The water around the shallows was glassy, moving slow and low, perfect for practice. Cottonbright stepped in first, letting the cool liquid rush gently around her legs before pausing to glance over her shoulder.
"Step in. Let the river hold you up. N-no rushing. The water listens best when you don’t fight it." She waited, patient as stone, knowing how much courage it sometimes took to take the first step. "It's a tad chilly, but isn't it refreshing?"
