Physical Description : | A medium sized, mottled brown owl with a pale, barred underside. It is usually seen flying close to the ground and has pale patches on the wings that are visible when flying. The Short-eared owl is rarely seen in the clan territories outside of the summer season. |

Behavior : | A ground nesting bird, the Short-eared Owl prefers open country to forests. This owl prefers to hunt small mammals, but is know to take birds given the opportunity. Contrary to the behavior of most owls, the short-eared owl will hunt both day and night. |
