Hallucination
Description:

A hallucination is a malfunction of the mental abnormality resulting in the false perception of objects or events involving your senses (sight, sound, smell, touch and taste). A hallucination will seem real to the patient.

Treatment:

While no effective intervention treatment exists, approach a cat experiencing a hallucination using the following technique:

  • Approach the cat quietly while calling his or her name.
  • Ask the cat to tell you what is happening.
Ask whether he or she is afraid or confused.
  • Tell the cat that he or she is having a hallucination and that you do not see or hear what he or she does.
But don’t argue with the cat if he or she can’t understand you or doesn’t believe you. The cat needs to feel that it’s okay to talk to you about his or her symptoms.
  • Talk with the cat about the experience.
Ask whether there is anything you can do to help.
  • Help the cat find ways to handle the hallucinations.
  • Do not hurry the cat.

Following the acute stage of the hallucination herbs to calm the patient are recommended.
